Definitive Spector: and not a dead waitress in sight!!!
Rezension aus dem Vereinigten Königreich vom 8. September 2012
Before being known for his complete inability to handle firearms and bizarre court appearances, Harvey Phillip Spector was the one of the greatest record producers of his time. This compilation features all the best recordings from his Philles period in the early to mid-60s.
With the great vocal talents of The Crystals, The Ronettes (whose lead singer Ronnie Bennett, Spector would later marry), The Righteous Brothers and of course Tina Turner just to mention a few. Spector's iconic (a word that is over-used, but I'm sure you'll agree not in this case) production style, The Wall Of Sound is documented perfectly here.
What sets this collection apart in my view is the fact that all the personnel that played in the legendary Wrecking Crew are all listed along with the songs they played on. Ideal if like me you're a bit of a nerd and like to know that sort of thing!!!
Also included is Spector's Xmas album, recorded believe or not at his fortress Gold Star Studios in California in the heat of the August summer!!! Believe me, once you've heard classic Xmas tunes given the Wall of Sound treatment, you'll wonder why you ever put up with having to listen to the turgid crap we're all subjected to every year.
A must buy for any music fan, treat yourself to the work of one of the 20th Centuries great musical figures.

A Bit of a Disappointment
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 4. Juli 2008
This collection is a bit of a disappointment, first, because of the failure to include even the already published stereo versions of at least eight of the 22 tracks (not to mention the already published stereo pressing of the entire Christmas album), and second, because of the failure to include any of the late 60s/early 70s Spector work, e.g. with the Checkmates, Ltd, with Ronnie Spector ("Try Some, Buy Some"), and even with the Ronettes themselves ("You Came, You Saw, You Conquered"). Still, thanks to the solid mastering and the somewhat bizarre inclusion of the Phil Spector solo demo of "Spanish Harlem," this disc is, for collectors, worth the price. And if the rumor about EMI's acquisition of master tapes turns out to be accurate, one can only hope for future release of true stereo mixes of the classic Spector recordings, as well as possibly unreleased tracks (e.g., "Baby, Don't You Get Crazy" by the Checkmates). Notwithstanding Spector's nostalgia about Gold Star and early 60s car radios, the stereo mixes make it far easier to appreciate his superb mastery of his medium -- and, let's face it, it's time to bag the "Back to Mono" mantra!

Amazing remastering
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 21. Juli 2007
After listening for years to the Back to Mono box set, remastered by Phil Spector earlier, and the illegal but somewhat superior sound of the Marginal Records releases from Belgium, this new set is a revelation to the ears. Remastered again by Phil Spector, but this time in stereo, the sound is fantastically fresh and clear, affording the listener a greatly enhanced experience. I never thought I would hear these old songs sound so great - all we can hope for is that the entire "Wall of Sound" catalogue gets the same treatment - but I guess that may have to wait until Mr Spector is a free man ? 5 stars for CD one - 3 stars for the Christmas album. Maybe it's just an Australian thing, but we don't go in for Christmas albums, no matter who sings them. That said, this is a mandatory purchase for fans of the era - you won't be listening to "Back to Mono" again.

TYCOON OF TEEN
Rezension aus dem Vereinigten Königreich vom 1. August 2011
This is a great package at a great price.Good old wig wearing, gun toting megalomaniac Phil Spector sure made some excellent tunes at his height,Tom Wolfe reffered to Phil as the "tycoon of teen".This cd contains many classics from Be My Baby,River Deep Mountain High,Unchained Melody. You also get the legendary Phil Spector christmas album.Credit should be applied all round, especially the lyric writers.Obviously Phils the star though.I believe a film is being made with Al Pacino as Spector, should be cool as they do not make stars like Phil anymore, borderline crazy genius flanked by bodyguards, taking no prisoners whether its Lennon or Cohen.Obviously the situation has ended with Phil behind bars, though lefty Hollywood is slowly starting a Spector is innocent campaign.Spector is a one man parable on stardom and madness. For the time being though listen to this great cd and remind yourself of the guys majestic talent.

Great Phil Spector CD set
Rezension aus den Vereinigten Staaten vom 2. August 2018
I am a big fan of the Phil Spector girl groups and this CD has most of there songs. If your a fan of his music you'll want this CD. A lot of great songs from the early to middle 60's.This also contains his Christmas CD "A Christmas Gift for You " with the same groups. An excellent Christmas CD.I would recommend this CD set for anyone who is a fan of groups like the Crystals, the Ronettes, Darlene Love ,etc.
