List of all members of the House Targaryen from the book series A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin and the HBO shows Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. House Targaryen is a prominent house of Westeros. Their coat of arms depicts a fire-breathing three-headed dragon and their motto is “Fire and Blood.” Most of the Targaryen bloodline was wiped out during Robert Baratheon's rebellion.
Who is the most prominent member of the House Targaryen? Daenerys Targaryen (AKA Daenerys Stormborn, Mother of Dragons, Khaleesi) was the daughter of King Aerys II. She appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and was played by Emilia Clarke on the HBO show Game of Thrones. Daenerys sought to reclaim the Iron Throne for House Targaryen. She was aided in her quest by legions of followers and her three dragons Viserion, Rhaegal and Drogon.
Aerys II Targaryen (AKA The Mad King) was King of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros before Robert Baratheon's rebellion. He died before the setting of the Song of Ice and Fire book series and HBO show Game of Thrones. Aerys was plotting to destroy the entire capital of King's Landing with wildfire rather than be conquered by Robert Baratheon. Jaime Lannister killed him before he got the chance.

2Daemon
Daemon Targaryen is the younger brother of Viserys I Targaryen and the second husband of Rhaenyra Targaryen. He believes himself to be his brother's heir to the Iron Throne, but Viserys names his daughter Rhaenyra instead. He rides the dragon Caraxes.
Daemon is played by Matt Smith in the HBO series House of the Dragon.

3Viserys I
At the start of House of the Dragon, Viserys I Targaryen was King of the Seven Kingdoms. He named his daughter, Rhaenyra, heir to the Iron Throne. He rode the dragon Balerion.

Aegon II is the son of Viserys I Targaryen and Alicent Hightower. Per Targaryen tradition, he is married to his sister Helaena. He rides the dragon Sunfyre.
Alicent, mishearing Viserys's dying words, makes it her mission to see Aegon on the Iron Throne. She gets her wish after some skillful maneuvering, crowning him King Aegon II.

8Rhaenys (The Queen Who Never Was)
Rhaenys Targaryen is the daughter of Aemon Targaryen and Jocelyn Baratheon; she is the granddaughter and eldest grandchild of Jaehaerys I and the cousin of Viserys I. She was passed over as heir to the throne, hence her mocking nickname “The Queen Who Never Was.” She rides the dragon Meleys.

9Corlys Velaryon
Corlys Velaryon is the husband of Rhaenys Targaryen. He is known as the “Sea Snake,” and sits on Viserys I's council.

Laena Velaryon was the daughter of Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenys Targaryen. Corlys suggested Viserys marry her to signify the strength of House Targaryen, but Viserys chose to marry Alicent Hightower instead.
Laena eventually married Daemon Targaryen. When the birth of her third child went wrong, she commanded her dragon Vhagar to burn her alive.

20Jaehaerys I
Jaehaerys I was King of the Seven Kingdoms. He is shown briefly in the first episode of House of the Dragon. With no surviving sons, he decided to give the throne to his grandson Viserys, passing over his elder grandchild Rhaenys in the process. He rode the dragon Vermithor.

Baelon was the infant son of Viserys I; he died shortly after his mother Aemma passed giving birth to him. Baelon was meant to be Viserys's heir.

29Viserys III
Viserys Targaryen was the son of Aerys II and brother of Daenerys. He appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and was played by Harry Lloyd on the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Viserys arranged for his sister Daenerys to be wed to Khal Drogo in exchange for 10,000 men to help him regain the Iron Throne. Viserys got impatient and became more demanding of Khal Drogo, who eventually tired of Viserys and killed him.

33Hugh Hammer
This lowborn blacksmith is actually an illegitimate Targaryen, the son of former princess Saera Targaryen, the disowned sister of Baelon Targaryen and ninth child of King Jaehaerys I Targaryen and Queen Alysanne Targaryen. He has enough Targaryen blood to become a dragonrider and bonds with the dragon Vermithor.

34Ulf the White
Ulf the White's true heritage was discovered when he answered Queen Rhaenyra's call for anyone with possible Targaryen blood. It is unclear what his heritage might be, but it's speculated that Ulf is a descendent of Baelon Targaryen and a close relation of Prince Daemon and King Viserys.
He is bonded to the dragon Silverwing.

35Rhaego
Rhaego was the stillborn child of Daenerys Targaryen and Khal Drogo. He appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Rhaego was killed just before he was born as the result of a vengeful maegi. He was stillborn, covered in scales and terribly deformed.

Khal Drogo was the leader of the Dothraki and husband of Daenerys Targaryen. He appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and was played by Jason Momoa on the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Khal Drogo was a fierce warrior who was very protective of his wife Daenerys. He was destroyed by a vengeful maegi, and Daenerys gave him a merciful death and lovingly burned him on a funeral pyre.

37Viserion
Viserion was one of Daenerys Targaryen's dragons. He appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Viserion had cream-colored scales and was named for Daenerys's late brother, Viserys Targaryen. He was killed by the White Walkers and resurrected as an ice dragon.

Maester Aemon was a member of the Night's Watch and the son of Maekar Targaryen. He appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and was played by Peter Vaughan on the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Aemon was the maester of the Night's Watch and was very wise. Most people were not aware that he was a Targaryen. He was very encouraging to Jon Snow. He died of old age and was succeeded as maester by Samwell Tarly.

Prince Aegon
Prince Aegon was the son of Prince Rhaegar Targaryen and Elia Martell. He is believed to have died before the setting of the Song of Ice and Fire book series and the HBO show Game of Thrones.
It is believed that Aegon Targaryen was killed, along with his mother and sister after Robert Baratheon's Rebellion. It is presumed that Aegon was killed by Gregor Clegane.

Missandei is a former slave and translator in the service of Daenerys Targaryen. She appears in the Song of Ice and Fire book series and is played by Nathalie Emmanuel on the HBO show Game of Thrones.
Missandei spoke 19 languages. She was Daenerys's primary aide-de-camp. She was ultimately killed on Cersei's orders.
