Peter Crouch reveals he has had a nightly prayer ritual ever since he was a child when he 'begged God to make him a footballer and it came true'

Abbey Clancy revealed her husband Peter Crouch prays to God every night in a special ritual he has - and she has to remain silent while he does so.

Peter, 47, admitted that is started as a child when he would ask God to make him a footballer when he's older - and it came true, so now he feels like he should carry on the dialogue.

During the latest episode of their podcast The Therapy Crouch, the couple - who have been married since 2011 and share four children - discussed Peter's routine.

Peter giggled as Abbey, 37, told the story: 'So you say prayers every night.

'It's funny, like when we're going to sleep, I'll be like talking, obviously. And then he'll just like, stop talking.

'And then obviously - I've slept in the same bed as him for 17 years now - so I just like stop talking while he says his prayer, and then just continue my conversation.'

'I say it in my head', Peter explained.

Pleading, Abbey admitted: 'I'm desperate to know what it is.'

Keeping it discreet, Peter quipped: 'It's private isn't it?'

Refusing to give up, Abbey kept pushing on what exactly her husband was praying for.

She guessed: 'He'll be like, dear God, please can you look after all of my loved ones?

'I just want to say thanks for my house, happiness and can you please look after my family and loved ones and blah blah?'

Peter revealed: 'Not far off. I think it is nice to just appreciate what you've got.'

Continuing her guessing game, Abbey asked: 'Did it start with please God, please can I be a footballer? I will do anything if you make me be a footballer.'

Struggling to contain his smile, Peter admitted: 'It did a bit. As a kid that is genuinely what I asked for. You've literally nailed it.'

'Because I know you', Abbey responded smugly to have finally got her answer.

Issuing more detail, Peter continued: 'That's how it started, but like, that's happened right?

'And then I was like "Oh my God like I believe in him! I better start thanking him!''

Evidently Peter's praying paid off, as he went on to be a professional footballer for over 20 years, playing for the likes of Aston Villa, Liverpool, Tottenham and others.

He scored over 100 Premier League goals, recorded 42 England caps and holds the record for the most headed goals in Premier League history.

Last month, Abbey shocked fans when she revealed her husband tells her he wants to have sex by sending her three emojis.

Abbey told how her beau will often send her a beaver emoji followed by an aubergine emoji whenever they're alone in the house.

She said: 'I just don't know how long I can go on with these sexual emojis that you keep sending me.

'If the kids go to school and he hears me like, put the key in the door I'm in and no one's in the house, I just get a beaver and an aubergine emoji text. I'm not even gonna say the last one but you can imagine what it is.'

Peter laughed and confirmed: 'There's three emojis.'

'I've got a bit of hydration in there,' Abbey said, referring to the splashing sweat emoji as Peter continued laughing.

'How vile is that? Am I supposed to go, "Oh yeah, now I'm bang up for it."'

Peter said: 'The beaver emoji I think is the best emoji out of the lot. It's incredible.'

Abbey asked: 'Do you think you're gonna get lucky with those messages?

Peter replied: 'I'm just letting you know, I'm putting my cards on the table.'

It comes after Abbey told how she ties her dressing gown at the back while drying her hair in a bid to stop Peter trying to get frisky.

The stunner said she previously used to blow-dry her hair in the nude because she found the hot air from the machine too hot.

However, her sportsman husband tried to get amorous, prompting her to bar him from the bedroom while she ties her dressing gown in a way that is too confusing for the former footballer to undo in a hurry.

Abbey asked: 'Do you think you're gonna get lucky with those messages?' to which Peter replied: 'I'm just letting you know, I'm putting my cards on the table'

She explained: 'It drives me insane. I've come up with a new tactic with the dressing gown. Instead of tying the belt at the front, I tie it at the back.

'It's like "how do I untie this thing?" It works a treat.'

When Peter asked her why she did not want him admiring her, she told him: 'I do. Any other time is fine, but not when I'm getting ready.

'But it's nice to know that you're still desirable to your husband after 16 years.'

Abbey and Peter married in 2011 and the couple are parents to Sophia, 11, Liberty, seven, Johnny, five and three-year-old Jack.
