Peter Bengry

Since the age of five years old, Pete Bengry has dedicated his life to percussion and the benefits that rhythmical music has to offer. Following an extensive career as a professional percussionist, he has followed his passion and developed 'Rhythm for Health', a program specialising in offering drumming and rhythmical music making within healthcare. This new venture was inspired from his decision to become a nurse as he wished to offer alternatives to the traditional medical models that were commonly adopted within healthcare environments.

In 2004 he traveled to the USA and trained with Dr. Barry Bittman, a neurologist and Christine Stevens, an expert in drum circles. Becoming a certified 'HealthRhythms Facilitator' has influenced his approach to teaching and enhanced his skills as a professional musician.

His commitment to offer music as a therapeutic tool has been his passion throughout his life and continues to this day:

'Playing rhythmical music is an excellent way of breaking down barriers, as it inspires creativity and allows people to express their emotions in a universal language. Rhythm is in all music, whether we hear or feel it, rhythm is within us too, it is part of LIFE, beginning with the heart beat. We are surrounded by rhythm and opening up this natural rhythm within us is to open the opportunity for healing. This is the real gift of music.'
