I've decided that 'Going Down' might be the rockin'est tune that was ever written. Every band I've heard do it smokes it: The Who, Freddie King, Masters of Reality, Jeff Beck, and I just heard a live Stones version on the radio recently for the first time. (A very interesting take - Mick had a different set of lyrics for a big part of it.) But I had no idea that that would be the closer for the show I saw in February, G3 (Joe Satriani, Steve Vai and Eric Johnson)...what a treat!

In case you didn't know it, the man who wrote it was Don Nix (former sax player from Booker T. and the MG's), and didn't record his own version he was urged to after others had seen it becoming a hit for other bands. (Wiki has a great page on him, too. )

Entwistles bass sounds like a moving tank

Can't imagine how loud that was in the venue

Fantastic

The song suits them better than the Jeff Beck Group. I would have loved to see them perform it regularly for example in the My Generation medley

The wildest thing is that, when Pete started it, John had no idea what he was playing. Check how quickly he catches up.
