An intimate Law & Order: SVU episode has been teased by one of the show's stars. Law & Order: SVU premiered on NBC as the first of many spinoffs of the original Law & Order series. Law & Order: SVU follows the New York Police Department's 16th Precinct as it investigates and prosecutes various crimes in the city. Created by Dick Wolf, the series stars Christopher Meloni as Detective Elliot Stabler, Mariska Hargitay as Stabler's former partner, Captain Olivia Benson, and Ice-T as Detective Odafin "Fin" Tutuola. Law & Order: SVU season 24 is currently airing on NBC, with two episodes remaining in the season. In a video released by Today, which also airs on NBC, Law & Order: SVU star Christopher Meloni teased an intimate upcoming episode between Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson. After leaving Law Order: SVU in season 12, Meloni returned as a recurring character in season 22.

In the video, Christopher Meloni teased what it was like doing an intimate scene with a longtime coworker on the show and described it as interesting, delicate, difficult, and awkward. The star actor then added that those feelings were all part of the scene within the story of the show, though. He also said that he prepared by popping a breath mint. Check out Meloni's comments on the scene below.

"There's nothing too different. When you've been friends and coworkers, and the kind of relationship that we have... You're presented with what the scene's about, and you get in there. At least on my part, it was an interesting scene. A delicate scene, a difficult scene. Awkward. But that's all good because I think those were all elements that were part of the scene... I popped a breath mint."

Will Law & Order Finally Bring Stabler & Benson Together?

Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson in Law & Order SVU

Elliot Stabler's return to Law & Order: SVU season 22 immediately revealed his deeper feelings for Olivia Benson. During his first conversation with Ice-T's Fin, Stabler takes a keen focus on Benson's personal life as opposed to her professional status, which called back to their long history together in the first half of the show's run. Unlike some other will-they/won't-they relationship arcs on television, though, Stabler and Benson's was a bit more complicated because Stabler was married with kids. Stabler's dedication to his work resulted in some difficulties in his marriage, which his wife was supportive of, but now it appears that Stabler is finally moving forward with Benson.

Stabler and Benson have teetered on a relationship in the past. By Law & Order: SVU season 7, the two were classified as being "too close" to one another. They were very nearly separated, but upon further consideration, the department believed that two detectives were too efficient together that they couldn't afford to split them up. Before his original departure from the show, Stabler even went undercover with Benson as a couple at a swinger's party. A lot of work is done on their relationship in the meantime on Law & Order: Organized Crime, especially when Stabler gives Benson a private note that is never revealed to the audience.

The union between the star characters has been teased ever since Stabler's return, and Meloni's description of the scene makes sense considering the two's storied past. For long-time watchers of the Law & Order universe, it's an official coming together that was only a matter of time, but the wait finally appears to be coming to an end. The ramifications of their actions could be serious, though, both as it pertains to their personal relationship and their professional endeavors. Only time will tell if their intimate episode will lead to a stable relationship between the two characters. Law & Order: SVU season 24 is currently airing on NBC.
