James Albert Pell, 79, of Roann, Indiana, died at 9:26 am, Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne. He was born on March 10, 1944, in Wabash, to Carl J. and Anna L. (Warren) Pell.
Jim was a 1962 graduate of North Miami High School. He married Mary Jane Roe in Fairmount, Indiana on February 23, 1969. Jim was a US Army veteran serving in the Vietnam War, where he received a purple heart. Jim was a farmer 10 years, a truck driver, and owned Pell Mower Sales, in Roann, for 7 years. He was a member of the Laketon American Legion, member and former chief of the Roann Volunteer Fire Department 25 years, and the Roann Jaycees. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and collecting antique tractors.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Jane Pell of Roann; two children, Michele Pell of Peru, Indiana, and Michael (Amy) Pell of Camby, Indiana; two grandchildren, Danielle (Joshua) Stevenson of Columbus, Ohio, and James Michael (Abbi) Pell, of Martinsville, Indiana; and three sisters, Ruthann (Randy) Green of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Mary Sue (Bob) Fuller of Wabash, and Tracy Pell of Marion, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Grandstaff-Hentgen Roann Chapel, 335 S. Chippewa Rd., Roann, with Jody Tyner officiating. Burial will be in Roann Community Cemetery. Friends may call 2-7 pm Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the funeral home.
Preferred memorial is Roann Community Heritage Street Lighting Program.
