Paul Drake is a character created by American author Erle Stanley Gardner for his Perry Mason series of novels. in the HBO Series he is portrayed by Chris Chalk.

Paul Drake is a street cop for L.A. Police Dept, Newton Division. As a black police officer, Drake is subject to the blatant racism and stereotypes of the day. It is apparent that the police hierarchy feel that he should be policing only black communities and that, essentially, his police powers do not apply to non-black citizens. Regardless of his status on the police force, he displays a keen ability for deductive reasoning and investigation as he finds himself drawn into a conspiracy to frame an innocent woman for the kidnapping and murder of her infant son.
