Aston Villa’s Pau Torres raves about £51m striker who Tottenham reportedly want to sign

Hearing Pau Torres’ name will be a little bit of a painful one for Tottenham Hotspur after he rejected a move to Spurs in the summer of 2021 – and is now impressing in central defence for Aston Villa.

Three years ago, with Spain star Torres still at Villarreal, Fabio Pararici made a £52m to sign Torres while at Tottenham. He told Spanish media he rejected a move as he wanted to play in the Champions League.

Fast forward two years, and Torres moved to Villa to reunite with manager Unai Emery at The Midlands club. He has formed a solid partnership with Diego Carlos at the back, clocking up 31 games in total.

On Thursday night, Villa are in Europa Conference League action against Lille – and need a result to take something to France with them next week. They come up against Canada goal machine Jonathan David.

A player that has been excellent on a regular basis in France. Now in his fourth season with Lille, Canada star David has scored an impressive 23 goals in 39 games for the Ligue 1 side – laying on seven assists.

Tottenham are supposedly interested in landing David this summer, as Spurs look to bring in a striker this summer. He is rated at £51m, and ahead of Thursday’s clash, Torres raved about the Tottenham target.

What Pau Torres said about Tottenham target Jonathan David

“For me, I always want to play against the best players. He’s doing a really good season, really good work, scoring many goals. Want to beat him. I want to play against the best. One of the best strikers in Ligue 1.”

He would be a wonderful signing for Tottenham this summer, if Spurs can convince David of a move to the Premier League. Realistically, he is not going to get a better move than Spurs – if he wants England.

Arsenal, Liverpool and Man City have better options up top – but Spurs still boast Champions League football and the likelihood that Spurs would start him. Especially, if Ange Postecoglou sells Richarlison.
