Patti LuPone is a three-time Tony Award winner for her performances as Joanne in Marianne Elliott’s award-winning production of the Stephen Sondheim / George Furth musical Company, Madame Rose in the most recent Broadway revival of the Jule Styne / Stephen Sondheim / Arthur Laurents classic Gypsy, and the title role in the original Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice’s Evita.

Her previous New York stage credits include War Paint (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle nominations); Shows for Days; The Seven Deadly Sins (New York City Ballet); Company (New York Philharmonic); Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle nominations); Sweeney Todd (Tony, Drama Desk, and Outer Critics Circle nominations); Noises Off; Master Class; Anything Goes (Tony nomination and Drama Desk Award); Oliver!; Accidental Death of an Anarchist; and The Robber Bridegroom (Tony and Drama Desk nominations). Ms. LuPone has also enjoyed a long association with David Mamet, starring on Broadway in productions of his plays The Anarchist, The Old Neighborhood, and The Water Engine; off-Broadway productions of Edmond and The Woods; as well as his films Heist and State and Main.

In London, she starred on the West End in Company (Olivier Award and WhatsOnStage awards); Master Class; and created the role of Norma Desmond in Sunset Boulevard (Olivier nomination). She was the first American artist to win an Olivier Award for her performances in The Acting Company’s production of The Cradle Will Rock and as Fantine—a role she also created—in the Royal Shakespeare Company and subsequent West End world premiere production of Les Misérables.

Ms. LuPone made her debut with the LA Opera in Rise and Fall of the City of Mahagonny before returning to appear in the company’s production of The Ghost of Versailles. Her other operatic credits include Jake Heggie’s To Hell and Back for San Francisco’s Philharmonia Baroque Orchestra and title role in Regina at the Kennedy Center.

In film, she received critical acclaim for her performance opposite Joaquin Phoenix in Ari Aster’s Beau Is Afraid, and has also been featured in The School for Good and Evil, Last Christmas, The Comedian, Parker, City by the Sea, Just Looking, Summer of Sam, The 24 Hour Woman, Family Prayers, Driving Miss Daisy, and Witness. Soon to be seen in the eagerly anticipated Marvel series Agatha, Ms. LuPone has given memorable performances on many television and streaming series, including Hollywood, Pose, Mom, Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Penny Dreadful (Critics’ Choice nomination), Girls, American Horror Story: NYC, American Horror Story: Coven, 30 Rock, Glee, Frasier (Emmy nomination), and four seasons as Libby Thatcher on the ABC series Life Goes On.

Ms. LuPone is a founding member of both the Drama Division of The Juilliard School and John Houseman’s The Acting Company, and the author of The New York Times best-seller Patti LuPone: A Memoir.

Joseph Thalken is an award-winning composer, conductor, and pianist whose theater and concert works have been performed internationally. He is the composer of the musicals Was, Harold and Maude, Fall of ’94, Borrowed Dust, and Inventions for Piano, and his concert works encompass chamber, choral, orchestral, wind ensemble, and vocal music. His ballet, Chasing Home, was recently recorded by Richard McKay and the Dallas Chamber Symphony, and will be released later this year. He is also the composer for the podcast Radio Play Revival. In addition to Patti LuPone, he has served as music director and/or arranger for luminaries of Broadway and classical music, including Julie Andrews, Liza Minnelli, Bernadette Peters, Renée Fleming, Rebecca Luker, Marin Mazzie, Liz Callaway, Sierra Boggess, Catherine Malfitano, Elizabeth Futral, Kristin Chenoweth, Sally Wilfert, Polly Bergen, Faith Prince, Hugh Panaro, Michael Crawford, Howard McGillin, Jason Danieley, Nathan Gunn, Rodney Gilfry, Brian Stokes Mitchell, and many more. He has taught music theater composition at Yale and is a proud graduate of Northwestern University.

Scott Wittman is a Tony, Grammy, and Olivier award-winning lyricist and director. His Broadway credits, co-written with Marc Shaiman, include Hairspray, Catch Me If You Can, Martin Short: Fame Becomes Me (which he also directed), Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Some Like It Hot. His television and streaming credits include Smash (Golden Globe, Grammy, and Emmy nominations) and the “Rogers: The Musical” episode of the Disney+ Marvel series Hawkeye. He was an Oscar nominee for his song “The Place Where Lost Things Go” from Mary Poppins Returns. Mr. Wittman has directed Christine Ebersole, Nathan Lane, and Bette Midler in concert, as well as Jukebox Jackie starring Justin Vivian Bond and Cole Escola at La MaMa and Bridget Everett’s Rock Bottom at The Public. On Broadway, he directed Patti LuPone on Broadway as well as her concert Matters of the Heart at Lincoln Center Theater. His downtown shows from the 1980s are in the permanent collection of MoMA. His upcoming projects include the Broadway musical Smash, scheduled to open in spring 2025.

Jeffrey Richman was most recently the co-creator and executive producer of the Showtime series Uncoupled starring Neil Patrick Harris. Prior to that, he was an executive producer of Modern Family for 10 seasons, earning five Emmy Awards (including one for Outstanding Writing for a Comedy Series), three Writers Guild of America Awards, three Producers Guild of America Awards, and a Golden Globe for Best Comedy Series. Mr. Richman has served as executive or co-executive producer on Wings, Frasier (Emmy Award), Stark Raving Mad, Charlie Lawrence (which he also created), Jake in Progress, Stacked, Rules of Engagement, Desperate Housewives, and Back to You. He also received an Emmy nomination for writing the 82nd Annual Academy Awards with hosts Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin.

“Sideman to the Stars” Brad Phillips has worked with Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Pat Metheny, Iggy Pop & The Stooges, The Verve Pipe, Mark O’Connor, and countless other singer-songwriters from the Great Lakes region. He is known for his long-standing musical collaborations with Emmy Award–winning actor-singer-songwriter and fellow Michigander Jeff Daniels. Mr. Phillips earned a bachelor’s in jazz studies and a master’s in improvisation from the University of Michigan, where he now serves as a lecturer in the department of Jazz & Contemporary Improvisation. A composer, arranger, musical director, singer-songwriter, record producer, theatrical sound designer, actor, and multi-instrumentalist, he also serves as a resident artist at Daniels’s Purple Rose Theatre Company in Chelsea, Michigan, where he has contributed to more than 25 plays in various creative capacities. His experiences on the road and collaborations with artists he has encountered inform his career as a recording artist and his solo shows. Most recently, Tales of a Midwestern Sideman provides a lighthearted, thoughtful, and moving evening of storytelling and music.
