Parque del Oeste (Spanish for Western Park) is a much less visited park than the massive El Retiro. But it's a lot quieter too! It’s a pleasant little place to stroll amidst an extensive rose garden.
I gave it four stars, but in mid-May when the roses are in full bloom, it’s unquestionably a five-star experience! This gorgeous park without tourists includes charming pathways, lots of plants, and beautiful fountains. Visit when you want to escape the chaos of Madrid!

We spent about an hour slowly walking from Moncloa to Temple de Debod. We took a slightly circular route and sat in the sun for a while. There are many beautiful trees, some blossom and the stream running from Moncloa is very picturesque. There are a number of interesting monuments dotted about. There are nice toilets in the amazing rose garden. There isn't a cafe as far as I know.

The Parque del Oeste or Western Park is a park north east of the Royal Palace and quite a bit away from the main tourist circuit of Madrid. Which is a bit of a shame because it's a fantastic park. Probably the most famous and best known feature of the park is the Templo de Debod and deservedly so. The park is full of green, lots of walkways, monuments and sculptures to admire and is amazing on a warm sunny day. It's so quiet to downtown Madrid, it's feels great to get a large park almost all to yourself.

This is a historical site. Many Spaniards lost their lives during the war of 1808, the Napoleonic invasion of Madrid. Also, during the Civil War 1936-1939, many soldiers died at this site.
It is a nice place to walk, run, or bike. It is specially nice at sunset with beautiful views of Madrid.

A haven of peace and quiet in the middle of Madrid. We visited early in the morning and it was very quiet and peaceful with birdsong everywhere. There are lots of pathways to take with statues and beautiful plants all around, doesn't matter which path you take. Stunning!

The park was absolutely beautiful! The views of Madrid enabled us to find an amusement park to which we decided to go - the views are extraordinary!
It's small and particularly busy in the summer evenings.
With a little lake and incredible history to go with its surrounding monuments, the sunset was really lovely.
As for the rose garden, it's a rose lover's haven! With roses from all corners of the world, it was wonderful to see such care given to the garden: very romantic too as well as wheelchair friendly.

The temple is one thing but the view is even better. Unfortunately the temple was closed when we visited the Parque, but the views over the city was worth the visit.

An Egyptian temple in Mardid? Yes, its really an awesome experience. Best time to visit is during dawn. Its a good place for photography, click the stone temple, reflection on water and then the sunset on the behind of the temple.

My friends and I were in Madrid for the weekend and we visited the Temple de Debod at sunset. It was so beautiful (I would recommend the sunset time for you as well). It is an old Egyptian temple that has been restored but also has original pieces too. In the inside of the temple there is a free mini-museum with a little bit of the history and more original pieces from the original temple in Egypt. There is a pretty view of Madrid and you are able to watch the sunset over the entire city. The reflections on the surrounding pond are gorgeous. It was our favorite place in Madrid.

For any with an interest in archaeology and Egyptology in particular, this is an absolute "must-see". It's the reconstruction of a temple donated by the Egyptian Government in 1968 in gratitude for Spain's help for saving the Abu Simbel temple from flooding by the Aswan Dam. Just amazing to get inside a genuine ancient Egytian building
The Temple of Debod is sited in the small Rosales Park on the brow of hill, which affords lovely views across Madrid.
Best to visit early.
