There are very few words that are capable of describing how great of an album Paris is. Honestly, no review could do this masterpiece justice, so you can either watch me attempt to achieve something close, or just run and hear this beautiful piece of art right now!

I am also not very surprised that the 'genre' category was left blank, as there really is no way of correctly cataloguing Paris - it has a little bit of everything!
The album features so many different rhythms, so many different types of melodies and world music, it has groove, melodies, dark atmospheres, saddening and cheering parts, and most of all: musical geniousness.

The only way of reviewing the album is song by song, as every each and one of the 13 tracks that assemble Paris is very individual.
The album starts with Mon Die Senie. a rather catchy song, one of the catchiest on the album. However, it starts with Malcolm Mclaren talking with background music - a significant part of the album is going to be like that - so if you really hate it, leave this masterpiece to people who will appreciate it!
In any case, after a while a female voice joins Mclaren in the rather short yet highly catchy chorus of the song. Incredible. It's a perfect song to start an album of this caliber with, as this is no ordinary piece of work and that song shows just right what's to come! 9.5/10
Walking with Satie, along with Driving into Delirium, has a very dark piano backgrounding. It sounds as if Malcolm used samples from an old horror movie and just tweaked with it a little to suit his needs. Amazingly cold, almost melancholic to some extent. The funny thing is that it starts with an odd french-accent rap talking about paris and jazz. The lyrics throughout the whole album are so imaginary and surreal, and on this specific track it fits even more than usual. 10/10, and possibly one of the most amazing standalone songs ever written.
Next to come is Père Lachaise. If you wouldn't tell me Malcolm Mclaren is the mind behind this song, I'd definitely say it's some underground The Doors song I've never heard of. Malcolm proves once again he is one hell of a vocalist, sounding so much like Morrison! The drumming and keys are also very reminding of The Doors. This is one of the 'exceptions' of the album, as most of it isn't as organized theory-wise. 10/10. Had it been an actual The Doors song, it would've been one of their greatest hits. Way to go Malcolm!
Next are Miles of Miles of Miles Davis and Jazz is Paris. I rather review them as a whole, as Miles of Miles of Miles Davis is an intro to the greatest song of.. all time? Possibly!
The intro starts and end with an amazing trumpet solo (that later returns to haunt the listener on Jazz is Paris's chorus) and Malcolm's regular, amazing voice over it. After it ends, starts Jazz is Paris. Possibly Mclaren's greatest hymn and most renowned song ever. You probably know it, even if you think you don't. It's just.. perfect. I cannot elaborate anymore. Hear it. 10/10.
Rue Dauphine is mostly instrumental and represents the fun parts of Paris. A jazz trio in a crowded street. Malcolm joins the musical bliss after a while to create another amazing atmospheric song. 10/10.
Paris Paris is rather different, and in my opinion the weakest link in a near perfect album (although it's still very good). It is very soul-ish and somewhat sounds a little personal. If you're very sad this might be what pulls you up from the ground, but it might just as easily bury you deeper. A highly touching song, just a little bit too long. That's the only fault I can find in it. 9/10.
On comes Club Le Narcisse. Just when you were thinking 'Oh I get it, so this album DOES have some sort of formula to it', Malcolm proves you wrong. Club Le Narcisse sounds oriental, ethnic, it has middle-eastern drumming and instrumenting, and what I picture when hearing that song is an oriental Parisienne night club Malcolm must've spent a night or two at. If only I could think of such melodies from visiting a night club, haha. 10/10 !
La Main Parisienne features the female singing again, with Malcolm brilliantly singing along, complementing the already-beautiful voice of a singer called Amina. On the 3:40 mark she and Malcolm have a short conversation after which the song returns to its rather catchy chorus. 9.5/10 !
Driving into Delirium, as mentioned before, is the incoherent continuation of Walking with Satie. It's just as amazing, and it was a very wise decision of Malcolm to seperate those two songs, as they have a much greater affect this way. The song ends with Malcolm talking with minimalistic bells ringing in the background, and beautifully leads to.. (10/10, obviously)
Revenge of the Flowers! another gospel-influenced track, only this one sounds as if it was taken from a Walt Disney film soundtrack. Not in a bad way, of course, but in a very soothing, beautiful one. 9.5/10.
In the Absence of the Parisienne is one of the most beautiful tracks on the album. It's an atmospheric, minimalistic jazz session, with Malcolm leading in vocals. His voice is able to have so many affects on you at the same time. I don't understand how exactly, but this is just the way it is. 10/10.
Anthem - Well, an epic album demands an epic ending, and that's just what Anthem is, featuring a whole choir, and pushing the gospel-influences one step further. It reminded me of Pink Floyd. Excellent way to end an album of this caliber. 10/10.

Overall, Malcolm Mclaren produced one of the greatest albums of all times, mixing all sorts of instruments, genres, voices and atmospheres, creating an album that touches Paris from every direction. You could really tell how it is there just from listening to Malcolm's album, and that is really rare to achieve with music alone. A must have.

I thought this guy was supposed to be a sham. I thought he was an aged hipster with the damned soul of a music executive. I thought _Duck Rock_ was a fun but farcical one off. Will someone please explain to me why this album is so brilliant?

She was mon cherry, mon savoir-lady-fair. Mysterieux! Hiding behind her nom de plumage, her hair in some sort of je ne sais coif, she sat, sans chemise, around la table nibbling au courants and spooning soupçon. It was coup de food. It was love at first bite. It was chez my house. Enchanté! She parlay-voodoo'd, "Avez-vous faim? Voulez-vous une croque-madame?" Zut allures! I wanted femme, coquette, and madame! A ménage à quarte! But, no, a mauvais quart d'heure, a pièce of résistance threatening to ruin my cul d'état: a mousse! A petite mousse scurrying sur la table from fromage to well-âged fromage. She eek'd, shrieked. I quashed, quelled the horreur, prêt-à-deported it to heaven animaux, and awaited my bonbon. Encore? I give you la petit more: I kiss, we tryst, and the rest is too risque.

McLaren flaunts his love of Paris in a very sophisticated way. Pais is one of the best concept albums I know, this is a true classic, if you know how to appreciate it. Paris Paris and La Main Parisienne are the highlights.

Paris Paris... I feel love... Love to love...

Very interesting music, but mostly ruined by the stupid and ridiculous voice of McLaren over the songs.

The difference is made by "Paris Paris", "Revenge of the Flowers" and "Le Main Parisienne" ( `cause a girl sings these ) and the jazzy cut "In The Abscence of the Parisienne".
The rest is forgettable.

This disc was sent to me as a promo from Polygram.I threw it aside(I got all kinds of stuff from the labels). When I did put it on I was duly impressed.Im not going to use the tired phrase"breath of fresh air" because I didnt like it at first.I thought it was different. But that is what attracted me to it in time.I would play it in the store and most people didnt like it.The more I listened to it though it grew on me.Now "Mon Die Senie","Jazz is Paris","Miles & Miles of Miles Davis","Je T'Aime...Moi Non Plus"are standouts for me.This is a jazzy, poetic album. It's sexy and romantic. It's Paris. Its a daydream by the manager of the Sex Pistols. The remix disc that I got with the promo is good as well.

There isn´t any singer who could describe better Paris than Malcolm McLaren. Paris, city of love and absolute sensuality.. of course. good stuff.
