Paolo Maldini has made contact to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender and Newcastle United transfer target, Japhet Tanganga, on a possible loan deal for AC Milan, according to a report.

Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio has claimed that AC Milan’s aim is to sign Tangnaga from Spurs and he is one of the first names to improve their defence.

The Serie A champions aren’t the only ones chasing the signature of the Englishman because Eddie Howe’s Newcastle are also keen to bring him on board this summer.

But it seems legendary defender Maldini, who is technical director at AC Milan, has made the first move to try and bring Tanganga to Italy.

It could be argued that the player is a back-up option in Antonio Conte’s squad, so moving this summer and earning some valuable minutes could be the right call for him to make.

FIKAYO TOMORI AN EXAMPLE FOR TANGANGA

The former Chelsea star joined AC Milan in 2021 after falling out of favour at Stamford Bridge and the 24-year-old hasn’t looked back since.

Whilst Tanganga isn’t so low down in the pecking order in north London, one thing is for sure, someone like Tomori can be an example to him.

When Tomori was still in Chelsea colours, he went months without any football, before swapping the colours of the English side for the legendary Italian club.

Fast forward to today and he is a Serie A champion and he has returned to the England set-up heading towards the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Someone like Tanganga can go down a similar road if he searches for those regular starts, whether it’s with Newcastle or elsewhere in Europe.
