The Frenchman played for eight different clubs during his illustrious career but it was his five years at Old Trafford that made him a household name.
Cantona joined United in a £1.2m deal from Leeds, who had grown tired of the striker’s antics.
Howard Wilkinson was keen to cash in on Cantona and Sir Alex Ferguson felt he could tame the forward’s temper.
He was proved right as he got the best out of Cantona, who inspired United to four league titles in five years.
Cantona then unexpectedly announced his retirement at the age of 30 and he’s gone into acting since.
The Frenchman admits he gets ‘bored easily’ but that’s why he admires Giggs and Maldini, who spent their entire careers at their boyhood clubs.
‘I am very happy. I still live great moments, in another world, which is much better I think than becoming a manager or staying in the world of football. I don’t know if it is better,’ Cantona told the Athletic.
‘I admire Ryan Giggs or Paolo Maldini, who played in the same club for 20 years as a professional.
‘I admire them because me I cannot do it, I get bored very quickly, maybe because I have other passions.’
