Argentine playmaking sensation Pablo Aimar

Argentina has a storied history of producing mercurial attacking talents, with Pablo Aimar amongst a long list of brilliant playmakers to have emerged from across the Atlantic.

Aimar made his name during a successful spell at Buenos Aires giants River Plate, before interest from Europe predictably arrived and led to a big-money move to Spain.

The midfielder became Valencia’s record signing after a £13m move to the Mestalla in 2001, where he instantly became the side’s creative catalyst and integral figure during an era of huge success.

Aimar formed part of the side the reached the Champions League final just months after his arrival, before starring during the Rafael Benitez era as Valencia won two league titles and the UEFA Cup across three seasons, upsetting the established order in La Liga.

Gifted and graceful with the ball at his feet, Aimar often glided across pitches to cement his status as one of the great technicians of his era, the Argentine a wonderful talent and icon of Valencia’s modern history.
