This tv pilot that was made into a tv movie is okay. It feels like a cross between the tv shows Nashville and Justified, but I would just prefer a knock off of Justified since it is a good show. John Hawks is in it and he play the crime lord of this small town but when it cuts to the singer subplots, it just doesn't feel like it connects as well as it should. I assume with the tv show, stuff would have been more flushed out but instead we only get a little sampling of what was to come if it had gotten picked up by FX. The things that shine in this film are the characters. From the pilot/tv movie, we know who the characters are and what they are like. Had it aired on tv as a show, I would have watched it.

Outlaw Country is an FX pilot from the producers of Sons of Anarchy that was never picked up. I saw it this past weekend where they aired it as an original movie. John Hawkes is Tarzen, the criminal who run the town. Eli (Luke Grimes) is the leader of a group of criminals who Tarzen is convincing to work for him. Eli is also a country singer in his downtime. Mary Steenburgen is Anastasia, a country singer who has a dark past with Tarzen. She clashes with her daughter Annabel (Haley Bennett), who’s also a country singer and falls in love with Eli. The cast is pretty good, but Hawkes and Steenburgen were the best…
