      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Outer Range's plethora of subplots threaten to get sucked into a wormhole of ponderousness, but at least this sci-fi Western is anything but plain.

Michael Starr New York Post “Outer Range” is a bit touch-and-go in terms of its interest factor but, then again, you’ll want to know how it all turns out, thanks to the sci-fi twist that saves it from mediocrity. May 3, 2022 Full Review Kristen Lopez indieWire Brolin’s good and if the series eschewed the sci-fi conceit there’s enough good actors here to at least make it entertaining. But slathering a sci-fi element on top of it and not understanding what tone to strike doesn’t lead to oil, it leads to crap. Rated: D Apr 26, 2022 Full Review Ryan Britt Inverse Outer Range is one of the boldest, weirdest, and most affecting sci-fi shows of the 21st century. Despite the inevitable comparison to Stranger Things, the series forges its own path and succeeds because its so aggressively grounded in reality. Apr 25, 2022 Full Review Pradeep Menon Firstpost Outer Range often gave me the impression of being modelled very much on Netflix's Dark, but targeted at those who may have been unwilling to take all the intellectual and emotional leaps. Oct 10, 2023 Full Review Sarah Ward Concrete Playground A puzzle box of a program — and the weirder that Outer Range gets, and moodier as well, the more it intrigues and engrosses. Jun 25, 2022 Full Review Kristy Strouse Wonderfully Weird and Horrifying Outer Range proves to be unique, alluring, and infinitely odd. I applaud its approach to the unknown with a distinctive, massive anomaly that still takes a personal approach. Expertly acted, and wonderfully strange, it's a hit. Mark H There's science-fiction...and then there's fiction-science. This is the latter. If it were outright humor, I would be more willing to consider this...but it's no more credible than a zombie movie, or, say "Gravity" which also had terrible science. I'm a huge fan of some of the actors and the wide-open scenery of Wyoming. But as Season 2 opened -- two years after the first season -- I realized that I couldn't remember much about the first season because it was just so forgettable. Color me gone. Just not a fan of fi-sci. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 05/18/24 Full Review Maja M I haven't been this enthralled by a mystery sci-fi in a long while. Intriguing storyline and worldbuilding. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Maria G I really wantesbto like this but I couldn't make it through the first episode. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/24 Full Review Taylor T Very entertaining, well acted, and original sci-fi show(which is hard to do nowadays). Glad there will be a season 2. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/14/24 Full Review Audience Member This is a fun, great show worth watching. There are slow moments, and it takes some time to loop some of the threads together, but when it hits you at the end, it does come together like a really good masterpiece, leaving you wondering how things will play out for Season 2. I am looking forward to seeing the pace pick up with this one and see if it can hit its stride. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 04/21/24 Full Review Anita S I enjoyed it for Tom Pelphrey. Once it started going sci-fi, I continued to lose interest. I'll watch the 2nd season, but only for Tom Pelphrey. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 04/17/24 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
