2013 five CD box set containing a quintet of albums packaged in cardboard mini LP sleeves and housed in a slipcase. Alternative rock band 10,000 Maniacs first formed in 1981 gigging and recording independently then later signed up to Elektra. This selection contains 5 of the bands albums in Chronological order during their Elektra years beginning in 1985 with the Wishing Chair. The band's third album, in My Tribe, was their first to achieve large scale success eventually being certified x2 Platinum in the US. The follow up Blind Man's Zoo, charted in the top 20 on both sides of the Atlantic, while their MTV Unplugged album spawned the bands most successful single, a cover of Patti Smith's 'Because the Night'

Great collection of five great albums. Natalie Merchant is underrated as a vocalist. And lyrically the songs are both intellectual and fun. Some story matters are a bit heady and heavy, but they are presented with such great love that it tends to go unnoticed. The band's playing is a stark contrast to the Natalie's vocals as well as the lyrics themselves. But, that's the fun of any Maniac's album. Presented here in replica album sleeves, this is a must have for fans or collectors. too bad they can't include mini lyric sheets to go with it. Overall a great deal, you get five albums for a small price and all of these albums are great. Purchase this along with Hope Chest and you pretty much have all of their studio releases (Campfire Songs has a few b-sides and rare songs that also should be explored) but for casual fans, or beginning fans this is a great way to start. I already have these cds, I purchased this for my replica collection. It's like having a mini vinyl collection (only on cd)...I prefer to own cds rather than download them. and this is a great way to re-experience the tangibility of a new album...a must have.

5 of their greatest albums in one collection. of course I am a little bias since I love natalie merchant voice. she did vocals and piano. they put out great music and always enjoy listening to them over and over.after 1993 natalie was replaced by mary ramsey when she decided to go solo. to me 10,000 maniacs is not the same without natalie merchant. this is a collection wort5h having whether you like natalie or not.

Nothing better than having them ALL in one neat little box set! I loved listening to the 10,000 Manicas in the late 80's and 90's! The package is well executed using as little "material" as possible. The set isn't much thicker than a usual single disk in a jewel case so it's nice and compact. Nothing fancy or special, just all the wonderful works of 10,000 manicas in the palm of your hand for easy use and easy listening!

I think I was originally put off by the name of the band - 10,000 Maniacs suggested a punk influence which I didn't want. However, I have now discovered Natalie Merchant, quickly recognised how wrong I'd been and I love the soft melodic material. If you haven't already discovered Natalie and her band for yourself, but love folk and soft rock, then have a listen.

This Original Album series release is a great introduction to the group with five of their albums in a set. I would particularly recommend the MTV Unplugged disc in the set as a starter.

I thought the low price was a typo at first, but it's genuine - this 5CD set has to be one of the best bargains around!
Be aware, the five albums here don't include every studio recording released by the band, so it's not a set for 10KM completists - but they'll want to buy the separate albums with the original packaging anyway. For everyone else who just enjoys the music, or even if you've only heard one or two tracks and want to hear more, this is everthing you're likely to need.

5 albums, so maybe a bit of an overdose for anyone who is not a fan. I am, so thought it was great, my husband, on the other hand, asked me to take 4 of them off his ipod as Natalie's voice and kind of funny phrasing was driving him bonkers. Blind Man's Zoo is my favourite album and given the good price for this bundle the other 4 were just the icing on the cake.
