      Critics Consensus

If its fact-based story proves more fascinatingly outlandish than it's presented here, Operation Mincemeat remains an engaging and well-acted wartime drama.

Tom Shone Times (UK) Adapted from Ben Macintyre’s book, the screenplay is a brisk and jolly affair, taking gamey delight in comparing the art of espionage to the fibs of professional storytellers. Rated: 3/5 Aug 24, 2022 Full Review Tim Cogshell FilmWeek (KPCC - NPR Los Angeles) It is quite a moving story. Colin Firth [and the ensemble] do really solid, good work here. May 21, 2022 Full Review Wenlei Ma News.com.au It’s exactly the kind of well-rounded, satisfying movie which works on all levels but doesn’t particularly dazzle on any – and it doesn’t have to because it does what it needs to do. Rated: 3/5 May 20, 2022 Full Review Lee Zumpe Tampa Bay Newspapers The melodrama of the unlikely romance is a minor distraction. “Operation Mincemeat” is well-crafted. Michelle Ashford’s script ably handles the intrigue while maintaining tension and injecting dry humor. Oct 31, 2023 Full Review Gissane Sophia Marvelous Geeks Media Operation Mincemeat is a stylish dive into history with a fantastic cast ready to show off their chops at any given moment. Jul 23, 2023 Full Review Aaron Phillips But Why Tho? A Geek Community Operation Mincemeat is an incredibly thrilling watch if not for the simple fact that this audacious event actually occurred during the second world war. Ellen C Well written and superbly acted. Even though one may know the outcome, the suspense is enthralling. The two hours flew by. Excellent film and entertainment. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 05/17/22 Full Review Anne D Loved the dialogues, intrigue , suspense and dry humor . Rated 4 out of 5 stars 05/15/22 Full Review Patrick F The operation itself was real and history making. This film does a good job walking the audience through the mission and all the stress, planning, and tradecraft needed to pull off such a monumental military deception. Unfortunately the film's subplots were not as interesting. The main character seemingly having a crush on a secretary when he is married with kids? Who cares. The movie would have been better if it just focused on the mission. That being said history fans will mostly likely enjoy it overall. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/24 Full Review Craig B A fantastic cast really underpins this historical drama. Telling the story of one of the great Allied ploys to fool the Nazis ahead of the D-Day landings, it really goes to show how much could have gone wrong...and there were so many other moving pieces I was not aware of. Highly recommended to those who enjoy a well executed war drama. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review Richard G. R A good World War II espionage thriller based on the true story of British Intelligence's plan to deceive the Nazi's into thinking that the Allies were going to invade Greece instead of Sicily (Operation Husky) in 1943. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 05/10/24 Full Review Martin T It is a good movie with a fantastic cast. The development of the story can be slow at times only showing behind the scenes events with lots of dialogue, overall interesting but lacked that "something" that make films great.
