Not a highly collectable record per se, but a very special re-issue of this classic album in that it is one of the very few releases containing the original stereo mix in its entirety. For this reason only, it is highly recommended.

I only knew the stereo mix of this album for years, but mono is the way to go. The sound is considerably more full, rich, and balanced. Standout tracks include "Willow Weep For Me", "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry" and the title track. ONLY THE LONELY is considered a classic for a reason, it's a dark, moody album perfect for a late night by candlelight. I have a 1959 mono pressing, and it's in pretty good shape, with faint surface noise more often than not, but no loud pops, crackles, or skips.

I have this pressing along with an original mono and a repress stereo, but this is my go to copy. Such nice detailed sound and no noise.

I think the argument could be made that some original mono pressings are better, but honestly who wants to listen to this album with pops, ticks, clicks, and skips from their grandma’s original copy? Does anybody have a NM, or noiseless, original? I sure don’t and I’ve never been able to find one, and there are tens of millions of originals out there.

This is my favorite Frank album, and I can say that I am very happy to have this record for its quality. My only gripe is that it’s a double disk, but I can live with that because it sounds great.

The arranging by Nelson Riddle is thoughtful and rich, dramatic and lush. His immense skills are on full display here. Highlights are "Angel Eyes", "What's New", and "Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry.

Pressing is outstanding, large full sound with great dynamics. A well executed reissue.

This is a British re-branding of Frank’s classic “Only the Lonely”, his classic collection of ballads with orchestrations by Nelson Riddle. So the music here is a no brainer, it’s top notch, maybe as good as Frank gets.
As for the recording, vinyl, pressing, they are all superb. My only issue, and this may be the same on all versions, it’s 60 minutes of music on a single disc. That’s a lot of music, (with lush orchestrations taking up significant space). The grooves will be tight.
It is clear from listening to this album that this was a superb recording. There could very well be better versions of it out there. I paid $5 at a thrift store and was very very pleased with what I got for $5, even if I had paid $20 or $30 I think I’d still be happy. If you find this pressing go ahead and buy it.

One of my dad's favourite albums. I'm not that much into it but there are some good songs here like Only The Lonely, Angel Eyes, Willow Weep For Me, Guess I'll Hang My Tears Out To Dry and One For My Baby. This really is an album that Sinatra fans should have in their collection.

Picked this pressing up for a few dollars and wasn't expecting much. Happy to report that the vinyl pressing is quiet, the tone is rich without feeling bogged down, and the dynamics are excellent.

I have MFSL Silver issue ( 16 album box set) 1983, The Dutch THE FRANK SINATRA STORY Vol: 8 1971 and the 2018 two record set reissue. This Australian release is the best 12 song Stereophonic pressing out there. A must have for all Sinatra files.
