Amazon.com: One Woman, One Vote [PBS Video] : Ruth Pollak: Movies & TV
NARRATED BY SUSAN SARANDON. PRODUCED BY RUTH POLLAK. How could America call itself the world's greatest democracy but deny the right to vote to more than half its citizens? Why did so many people of both genders vehemently oppose giving women the vote, and how was this attitude overcome? ONE WOMAN, ONE VOTE documents the seventy-year battle for woman suffrage, which finally culminated in the passing of the Nineteenth Amendment to the Constitution. From Elizabeth Cady Stanton's electrifying call for women's rights at Seneca Falls in 1848, to the last no-holds-barred fight in 1920, this film illuminates the story of the fledgling alliances that grew into a sophisticated mass movement. To the end, crusaders faced entrenched opposition from men and women who feared that the women's vote would ignite into a social revolution. The film portrays the movement's leaders among them Susan B. Anthony, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Alice Paul, who gave their lives to making America a true democracy.

Wonder movie about the suffrage movement. I am a teacher and I used this movie in my class of girls. My girls are "at risk kids" so finding something to get their attention can be difficult at times. They were totally into this documentary. I had to stop it multiple times so we could discuss what we had just seen. It was amazing to see them so interested in a history subject.
I originally viewed this on loan from the library and thought it so good I just had to have my own copy. If I could require everyone in America to view one video, this might be it. It is a vivid portrayal of the dedication, persistence, organizational skill and political savvy of the women fighting for the vote and, most powerfully, their courage as they challenged entrenched social rules, and the hatred and the violence they had to face. It's hard to imagine now that the idea of women voting could arouse such anger and vehement opposition. But we should know--lest we forget!
Loved this PBS documentary! Every one should be required to watch it. I learned so much about the women who fought for our right to vote! Highly Recommend.
Such an important movie. Think every woman in America should watch it to understand what those who went before us went through to get us the right to vote. Every one of them a hero.
Oh my goodness, is this a vital and moving story for every woman to see. What it took to gain the vote and highlight the issue of women's rights. This is the story of the beginning--one that even today, is still an ongoing struggle on many fronts. If you are female and haven't seen this, do yourself a favor!
Fantastic video about fighting for the women's right to vote. My daughter watched it while working on a suffragette research paper. My husband and I learned so much too from the video.
