Includes incredible footage of Ma’Nene on the Indonesian island of Sulawesi when, once a year, locals open up the coffins of their dead relatives and spend a few hours with them chatting and smoking.

Once a year, near Pangala, Sulawesi, Indonesia, a ritual called Ma’Nene’ is performed. Families gather to remove their relatives from graves, change their clothing, dust them off, inspect the condition of their body, take pictures next to them, let them dry in the sun and then place them back into their grave again.
