This is a great album and a pretty good sounding record.referencing On Every Street (Cassette, Album) 9 26680-4
Sounds pretty good for a cassette tape classic Dire Straits- MFSL doesn't boost the lows, they just leave them where they are. I compared this to the original domestic cd issue, and it sounds fuller and warmer, while that cd lacks the low end and is too bright overall.
- Edited one month agoBoth the original CD and the 2014 GZ vinyl of this album are absolutely decent, but IMHO this is in another league altogether. Stunning. And (luckily) a perfect noise-free pressing to boot.
On my humble system (Pro-ject Debut Carbon II & AT VMN505H cartridge, Denon PMA 600NE & Mission speakers) it sounds absolutely amazing. - Edited one month agoI wish it wasn't the case, but this record comes last in terms of sound quality. People started complaining that Mofi sounded "Boomy", this has never been the case with my setup and they 'fixed' that but now the record lacks depth, punch and vividness. It seems that the low-mid has been EQ'd so low that Mark Knopfler's vocals sound thin and the drums don't punch at all. The thing I loved this album the most for has been removed almost completely and that is the deep rich sound, which Brothers In Arms also has. I was expecting the same kind of demo quality that Brothers In Arms had here, but it seems my expectations have been to high.
Now I'm not saying it sounds like absolute garbage, don't get me wrong it sound crisp and clear. The air and spaciousness is definitely there. But I think they messed too much with the low-end.
Solid release, but it doesn't do Knopfler's work justice.
Record: 7/10
Sleeve: 8/10
Music: 8,5/10 - Super quiet playthrough, barely a single tic. Lovely packaging like all the Dire Straits Mofi's.
Mastered well but im not sure its any better than the very good counterpart SACD and reading the PCM source on the back of the £70 record does make me question my own sanity for buying it in the first place. I had hoped for a little more tbh.
For this reason i suspect i wont be keeping my copy.
Obviously this was digitally recorded but i do wish Mofi with their "Original Master Recording" hype and history of all analog cuts went back to how they used to be and kept their releases AAA. - Edited 2 months agoReally gorgeous vinyl, and sounds like a listen for a ticket to heaven to these ears. No complaints at all, and glad to have my MoFi Dire Straits collection now complete with this treasure.
- Few pops and cracks on side B (fade to black and You And Your Friend), even after 2 ultrasonic cleaning... Quality issues on a record at this price level is inacceptable. Otherwise, the sounds is awesome, no complaints on this point
