Summary

  • Olga Kurylenko hints at changes in Thunderbolts* movie, in addition to the asterisk added to the title.
  • Marvel's Thunderbolts* movie has faced delays, script changes, and recastings during the production process.
  • The MCU's Thunderbolts* is currently filming ahead of its May 2025 release date.

Olga Kurylenko gives a cryptic response to what the asterisk may or may not mean for Thunderbolts* as she gets ready to return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. While only a handful of Marvel movies will be released in 2024, 2025 will be a different story for the MCU. One of the most highly anticipated installments in Phase 5 is the upcoming Thunderbolts* movie, set to be something akin to the MCU's version of DC's Suicide Squad.

In an exclusive interview with Screen Rant, while promoting her upcoming film, Chief of Station, Kurylenko was asked if she could share any details on what the Thunderbolts* title means for the film, since Marvel Studios recently added the asterisk to the name. Kurylenko, who is returning as Antonia Dreykov, a.k.a. Taskmaster, as part of the Thunderbolts cast, stated the following:

Olga Kurylenko: Well, they changed a couple of things. [Laughs] That's all I can say, but that also doesn't say anything, because obviously every movie is different, and in every movie, things change. But yeah, it will be different, we'll see. There's nothing I can say. [Laughs]

All The Changes Marvel Has Made To Thunderbolts*

The Movie Also Recast A Few Stars

The journey to Thunderbolts* has not exactly been one of the easier ones for Marvel Studios since they announced the project a few years ago. Thunderbolts*, which is currently filming, was set to start production in 2023, but had to be pushed back in light of the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes. However, the Thunderbolts* movie has also undergone a handful of changes, including a release date delay to 2025.

One of the biggest known shake-ups was the recasting of Sentry, as Steven Yeun had initially been tapped for Thunderbolts* to play Robert Reynolds. But due to conflicting schedules, The Walking Dead alum had to exit Thunderbolts*, with Lewis Pullman now taking over for Yeun. The Bear star Ayo Edebiri was another Thunderbolts* cast member who had to be replaced due to schedules, with Geraldine Viswanathan hired in her place as her mystery character.

There have also been a number of creative changes made to the Thunderbolts* script, but exactly what those modifications are has yet to be clarified. However, now that the MCU's Thunderbolts* film is finally filming, it will be exciting to see how the franchise will handle this team. Hopefully, whenever Thunderbolts* is done with principal photography, the world will be closer to finally getting the first proper trailer.

Chief of Station opens in theaters on May 3.
