Opulent hotel in the middle of nowhere. The hotel is quite nice though as other reviews have stated, the air conditioning here is a problem. I was too tired to change rooms, especially not knowing if the air conditioning would work in the new room. Had a beer in the lounge, a quick dinner in the restaurant and retired for the night. Breakfast was not included in my rate, though I believe that is an option. Also, WiFi did not work outside of the room. Next trip, might try to stay a bit closer to the airport.

Room tip: Ask about the air conditioning before being assigned a room

The hotel has lots of marble and glitter. The rooms are well appointed with a comfortable bed, big screen TV, and so many buttons to turn on and off different lights and open/close th window curtains. There is free wifi running at medium speed. Many sites such as Google are blocked. The bathroom has. Pedestal tub with a TV set built into the wall. There is a mediocre gym and a20m pool in the basement.
Now the bad, the hotel is relatively close toPudong Airport but the area around the hotel is run-down industrial area with loud dangerous streets and intermittent sidewalks littered with broken down cars and heaps of electric motor scooters. Next to the hotel is a restaurant with 6 or 7 dead DOGS hanging up drying. if eating dog is not your fancy, there is a restaurant in the hotel and a few others about 2 blocks walk through the ghetto.
Also, the hotel controls the room temperature. Despite my room being 26c, they would not turn on the AC.
I stay at this hotel for business and most or all of my co-workers have complained to our company with great displeasure and they will finally move us to a different hotel.

Stayed here with a friend for one night because we had a layover in Shanghai. We had booked a shuttle from the airport to the hotel but had trouble finding our transport. The gate they said they would waiting us was closed because of renovation which they didn't inform us about. We spent quite frustrating half an hour trying to find someone at airport who could speak english and help us. Luckily, we sent to the taxi queue and saw our driver on the other side of the street. Quite lucky we were.
We had also trouble with our credit cards. For some reason they wanted a deposit although we had already paid for our room. And they said it had to be paid by an other credit card. This seemed quite odd. There was a lot problems with our cards or with their card machine and our check-in took almost half an hour. The man with whom we talked, spoke good english so no problem there.
The room was nice and spacious, although it smelled like old tobacco. Could not care less about that then, so we just went straight to bed. Very nice bathroom with good bath products and shower and bath tub.
The internet was very slow and we were told that we could only access few sites excluding google, gmail, faceboot etc.
We booked a shuttle back to the airport the next morning. No problems there, it was good and fast way to travel.

The Short review - Good location (50 RMB from airport in taxi), lovely room (if a bit too warm) and bed, well equipped bathroom, usual excellent 4 star facilities, poor comprehension of English by most of the staff (fixable, but sometimes frustrating) and great value.

The Longer Review - We had 24 hours to kill on Chinese New Year before flying back to London. We chose the hotel for its location and the great price we got via Expedia (about £70 a night). We booked for two nights as we were arriving at 04:00 from Cambodia and wanted to get straight to the room.

We emailed a few times asking about the airport shuttle. None of my emails or a later fax were responded to, which is frustrating, but it turns out that English language problems are the reason why this happened. After a phone call and being put through to someone who did speak and understand more than very basic English it turns out that the shuttle doesn't start until 09:00, useful to know for others I hope.

The taxi from the airport cost just over 50 RMB, it was just under on the way back the next day. The journey is 15-20 minutes, depending upon the traffic and speed of the racing drivers who double as Shanghai airport taxi drivers.

Being Chinese New Year Eve the hotel was only 25% occupied, but from what we saw the rooms all looked roughly the same. There are only two non-smoking floors that we saw on the lift buttons, floors 8 & 11. Our room was large, super king sized bed (I think) with a large desk for eating/working and a large bathroom with good sized shower.

The internet worked fine for our purposes, but I wouldn't rely on it for home working and connecting to your office VPN. We had a problem with the A/C, which seemed only to pump out warm air; not sure why, but the maintenance man on duty seemed to indicate that this was the same in all of the rooms. Anyway they provided us with a fan to keep the room temperature lower than 25 degrees!

We used the pool, quite large and good temperature, but with a rock wall down one part of one length. I only write this as I gashed my foot kicking against it (by accident) on one of my laps, and it is real rock and sharp, so don't let kids too near it and mind your feet.

The staff are very friendly, very impressive, except that their English is not great, so when you hone room service you find yourself going down to reception to actually point at the items and place the order.

In summary, so long as you are aware of the minor pitfalls explained above I'd recommend this hotel for a stay when you want to be near the airport, but in comfort and without hearing planes.

Nice hotel. Though stayed for only one night. The rooms and all facilities are nice. Near to the Pudong airport. The staffs are friendly. It was on a business trip with some of my colleagues. At a far distance for the city center, but liked it.
