I plan to travel in the UAE as a tourist for a couple of months this fall. I need to use Zoom and Microsoft Teams to stay in touch with work and my kids need Zoom for school. Are these accessible there? I read conflicting things online.
Thank you.

Would be so grateful to have a response to this, thanks.
As it stands yes you can at present however this was relaxed due to Covid to allow home working and get The UAE economy moving.
It may change so you need to be mindful of that.
It’s a pain for me also as I used to spend longer spells in Dubai during school holidays etc as I could work remotely at times and used Skype for business however The UAE clamped down on this even for International use.
My company have now switched to Microsoft Teams and it is currently allowed in The UAE. It works as we have an office in Abu Dhabi and have been able to communicate with them via Teams.
I’m hoping it stays that way so I can enjoy extended stays once again not to mention it’s antiquated and does not make business sense to ban these communications but who knows, it’s ever changing and it may change again by November
Edited: 3 years agoThank you so much for responding. I'm in the same boat and it access is suddenly banned it will be a huge issue! Fingers crossed.
Can a VPN be used otherwise? Thanks so much!
Zoom works but has its own hiccups. MS Teams works well. So does Google Meeting, which IMHO is the best of them all.
Thanks, yes, I like Google Meet as well -- but for work and school it's Zoom which is used. What sort of hiccups?
Hi just wondering if Microsoft teams calls have worked ok while you have been in Dubai ?
Thinking of heading over in Jan but will need Teams for work.
Thanks
Yes,Teams has been fine. Same with zoom and hangouts.
The thing to bear in mind with this subject is to have a Plan B. It's not if it's accessible, it's if it keeps accessible.
It's not unusual - though rare - for them to sometimes block access now and again, either to flex their authoritarian muscles or more than likely, to try to incentivise using one of their own operator's systems.
Chances are you will be fine, but have a contingency prepped.
Microsoft Teams is the official meeting and collaboration tool for the government employees, so I doubt it will be blocked.
