Richard Avedon's portraiture is unique in an emotionally evocative manner not seen before the publishing of Observations. Throughout a photographic career as the world's most famous fashion photographer, (Harper's Bazaar, Vogue, Revlon, Versace, Calvin Kline ...) whose career spanned an energetic and prolific 60 years (1944 to 2004), it was Avedon's personal portrait work that compelled the observer to recognize in him, the artist who produced such stunning images. His ability to elicit the inner life in his subject's facial expressions. captures during unguarded moments, produced images that are both powerful and unexpected, the result of an emotional alchemy between photographer and subject, giving us a glimpse for an instant, their inside on the outside. Truman Capote's commentary is an added bonus to this out of print treasure, and although a bit pricey, worth the investment. Jack cheasty
