Plant History

The Oakville Assembly facility originally opened in 1953. From then through 1966, the plant produced nearly all vehicles for Ford in Canada. Oakville Assembly was responsible for producing the company’s minivans from 1995 to 2007, but transitioned to produce crossover SUVs by the fall of 2006.

Production of the Ford Edge and the Lincoln MKX began in 2007. By the spring of 2008, the plant began to produce the Ford Flex, which started production in 2009.

The Oakville Assembly Plant is clearly visible from the Queen Elizabeth Way and the Lakeshore West GO Train line. The plant relies on nearby railway service to transport parts and vehicles throughout North America.
