Diamond Head is an Oahu icon that mixes some of the most beautiful views from mauka to makai, interesting history, good exercise and at the end of the day.. you’re hiking a volcano (how cool is that?!).

Recommend planning ahead with plenty of water, shoes with good traction and sunscreen since you do have to work a little for the summit beauty with a steep elevation gain and you’re completely exposed to the sun almost the entire time. Going in the morning will be less hot, but is usually more crowded.

If you’re local, it’s an easy, cost-free entry at your desired time with your HI ID, but if you’re coming from the mainland or elsewhere, ensure you plan ahead and arrange your entry reservation online and determine your logistical approach (self-park vs. Uber or taxi, etc.) The parking lot in the crater can fill up quick, especially on weekends. Alternatively, you can hike in from outside the crater, but this also means a much longer outing and may fatigue those who don’t hike often.

Bottom line: Be smart with proper preparation and enjoy this Oahu must-see attraction that deserves every bit of its appeal and notoriety.

This historic palace is worth a visit, restored to its original condition as under the last Hawaiian monarchy. It’s a stunning space, filled and staged with treasures, though smaller in scale to the European palaces, and a bit fussy for small children with tight, quiet, largely gated-off rooms.

My husband and I have both wanted to visit Pearl Harbor since we were children and learned about the history that happened here in school. We were not disappointed, the memorial is impressive and very cool to see in person. It was fairly crowded the day we went but I feel that the park manages crowds fairly well. I will say that some of the exhibits get a little cramped and the gift shop also feels tiny for how massive the grounds are.

Just so you guys are aware, while we were waiting for our reservation lighting struck the harbor and they had to delay our sailing over to the USS Arizona by 30 minutes. We were fully loaded on the boat and everything and they made us get off. This is totally controlled by the Navy so don’t be mean to the park rangers if this happens to you. We did eventually end up going, but it was pouring down raining (island weather baby!) and there’s really no where to hide we all got totally soaked lol. Still a great experience getting to see the ship up close. I will say that people were being very disrespectful and laughing and yelling but that’s just how people are now. Don’t expect others to behave, even after they’ve been told multiple times to.

We came here as part of a Pearl Harbor tour, but I wanted to write here separately to note that Lisa was an incredible tour guide and made our experience a great one! This ship is a cool part of U.S. history and I'd recommend it to anyone.

My one suggestion is definitely go early if you don't like crowds, but beach itself is very nice with white sand, spectacular views of Diamondhead and the ocean.

This was a personal test and I’m so proud to do it! From my awesome Uber driver Misa who got me there, the awesome people who helped cheer me on and helped keep me safe and the encouragement and support from family, friends, colleagues, this should be on your “must-do!” Shout out to the folks wearing rucks and weights who flew past me but still managed to slow down and called me “sir” in the nicest way, without saying “move over boomer” 😆 and for the folks my senior who reminded me how far I have to go, rock on!!

Very humid and hot but do-able hike with the kids. Wear hiking boots especially for kids. I don’t know how some people walked with slippers. The waterfall at the end was beautiful. Felt like being in the middle of a rainforest.

Most beautiful beach I have ever been to….not too crowded and very clear water. Favorite spot on Oahu. Beach store in walking distance for drinks and great sandwiches

Excellent place to learn more about their culture and just how much of their heritage is missing. What I noticed the most is just much the early settlers of these lands resemble Native Indians, Indians and Africans. From their facial features, to heights, builds let alone the clothes and dance routines.

Now I know more about Captain Cooke and the Dole empire.
