Hi, it's all blown out of proportions and we made a double booking mistake and we apologised for it. We put brief explanations on the Charities fb page of "Once, We Were Soldiers" which our apology was put on straight away but it was deleted, however the next one was left on and here's the full explanation from us: We would just like to put our point across as we feel it has been totally blown out of all proportion and misunderstood. I had to take early retirement and decided for financial reasons to have 3 of our bedrooms as B&B. Therefore one is occupied by a permanent lodger and the other 2 for guests, mainly used by our regulars who come from Monday to Friday. When they arrived the young man was occupanied by his girlfriend and the gentleman Andy, that made the phone call. The young man girlfriend told us that they had been living together, but they now wanted time apart and were "waiting" for a council house. Which was also confirmed by the charity worker. We mentioned our house rules to him that for security reasons that we close doors preferably after 11 max 12 midnight on special requests. He suggested to keep the door be kept unlocked because he wants to go in and out after midnight, but that is impossible for us to do as B&B and its our personal family home. Our double booking error: One of our regulars emailed my husband to cancel a week and he was under impression that one room is available and than he took the booking from this gentleman(Andy). However, the blame is not on my husband only, the regular guest telephoned me to say he was coming as usual and he was already pencilled in so I presumed everything is as normal ! but my husband insisted that the room is available because the regular emailed and cancelled. So we rang the regular to ask if he was and said he was on his way. We rang the minute the charity worker had left to get the cash from the cash machine and apologised to him and told him that a double booking error was made and as the regular was travelling from long distance and it was too late in the day to cancel him at short notice. When my husband took the booking from this gentleman, nothing was mentioned that it was from the Charity and nothing was told about the young gentleman's special situation. WE DID NOT KNOW HE WAS AN EX SERVICEMAN, WE NEVER DISCRIMINATE AGAINST ANYBODY. As a B&B we take bookings, we don't ask personal questions like what job you do, what is your situation..etc. this is a B&B, we give people a bed to sleep for the night, they wake up in the morning, have breakfast and go for their business. We weren't told he had no place to stay, all what we were told he was LIVING AT HIS GIRL FRIEND's HOUSE and gave us the address, she came with him, and said he must move out awaiting his Council Flat approvals. We have a great respect for all our service personnel, my brother being ex airforce and we have had guests staying from Bramcote Barracks and one soldier who stayed with us, we welcomed him to join in our family party. We have had many soldiers stay with us we don't discriminate! We tried to call the Charity worker several times that night (I have photo of log call), and he never answered our calls as we wanted to help him find alternative accommodation. There are plenty of B&Bs and Hotels in Nuneaton that are priced as cheap as us like the Tavola Calda who we always recommend when we are full. We therefore feel very hurt and upset by all these insulting, threats, abusive and racists comments which ALL ARE NOTED, they are truly unfounded and we feel we that we have been personally been targeted. It's just truly unbelievable that out of a careless mistake between husband and wife we have had to endure all this abuse, threats and they are insisting to damage our livelihood. We have apologised to the gentleman in question and he is most welcome to come and stay with us anytime or compensate him for any losses. Thank you for your understanding.

Is it true that you turned away a young serving soldier, after promising him a room?
