My child is in a similar position this year- Fordham Honors with a lot of $$, Rochester with some but not as much and UConn which also gave him money and would be the cheapest. If Rochester was cheaper and a little closer it would be the easy decision. If Fordham came down to UConn price, he’d be there. How does your daughter like Rose Hill? 3 years later, does she feel like she made the right decision. Would appreciate your thoughts

What major is your student considering? Fordham is very strong in some majors and not as strong in others. My student is a sophomore, is having a very good educational experience, and New York has turned out to be an ideal location.

English/History/Polisci- maybe Econ, possibly minor in math. My student is very eclectic. Good to hear he’s enjoying it.

That combo of possible majors/minors should be good at Fordham.

I second that.

Congratulations to you and your son! I know it is so tough to make a final decision. My daughter ultimately decided on Fordham, in large part because of the full tuition scholarship. She has been happy at the Rose Hill campus and is in the Bronx and Manhattan often! Freshman year was a bumpy start (but I think that would have been the case anywhere) but she is thriving now as a junior. She is a dual major in psychology and anthropology. I think she feels she made the right decision. From my perspective, I don’t think the long, gray winters of Rochester and Burlington would have been good for her mental health. Access to all that NYC has to offer, while still having a beautiful college campus seems to be the perfect mix for her. Good luck to your son! I have heard great things about UConn as well. Feel free to send me a private message with any more questions.

UConn is cheapest for you, and neither Rochester nor Fordham are worth more; in fact, at the same price, I still think that UConn would be a better choice. But if your child would like Fordham to match Uconn’s offer, ask nicely tomorrow morning, and they probably will.

I don’t think so -it’s a public flagship, not an “admissions peer” - Fordham considers GWU, NYU, Villanova, Loyola Chicago, BC, … peers and may consider a counteroffer to one of them.

Still worth asking. RPI matched UConn for a kid I know, upon request, and they’re private.

Fordham honors because it is the preferred school and affordable.

they didn’t match:(

Are all options cofortably affordable (no debt, no hardship)? If so, I’d let your child choose. (FWIW Fordham honors is fantastic.)
