We are here in the real presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist in the Monstrance. He's truly here. This is not a symbol. So, lord, your permission, allow me to speak in your presence and tell another story about the Holy Eucharist. If you had to bring holy communion to a dying person and you were told by the priest to do it with maximum reverence, what would that look like? Hi, everyone. This is Father Rocky in the Chapel of the Nativity at Relevant Radio in Green Bay, Wisconsin with another story about the Holy Eucharist. As we prepare for the National Eucharist Congress in Indianapolis in July of 20 twenty-four. So, I read this story in a little booklet which was written by an auxiliary bishop in Kazakhstan. I don't think you've ever been to Kazakhstan and you might not even be able to find it on a map. And this bishop's name is Athanasius Schneider. That's a German name. And he's an auxiliary bishop of one of the cities there. Because many Germans were deported to Kazakhstan after World War two when the Soviets dominated that entire part of the world. And many of them were Catholic. And you during the communist rule, it was almost impossible to practice the Catholic faith and if he did, it had to be clandestine and so priest would come down there, never dressed as a priest and the word would go out and they would have a secret mass in somebody's basement at night. They close off all the windows. So, night, no light would get out And on one of those occasions, a woman came to the priest and said, my mother is dying and I want to bring her holy communion and it's too dangerous for you to go there, father. Can I bring her holy communion. This was before Vatican too and before they had extraordinary ministers of holy communion. And the priest said, okay, you can do it because this is a very dire situation. But I want you to treat the Holy Eucharist with maximum reverence. So you know what she did? She got an envelope. And in the envelope, she had a white handkerchief. And the priest put the host in the white handkerchief inside the envelope and she put it in her pocket. And when she to her mother, she put on white gloves. And then she took out a little silver tweezers to grab the host from the envelope and give the host to her mother. I said, wow, that's really maximum reverence. And we want to treat Jesus with maximum reverence. So that when we receive them, we've kept the one hour fast from food and beverage. We've made sure we've confessed our mortal sins, and that we look to receiving Jesus and treat him with maximum reverence. Because Jesus in the Holy Eucharist is the king of kings and the Lord of Lords. I hope this Eucharistic story helps you develop a greater reverence for Jesus in the Holy Eucharist. And I hope you will join me so that we all show up for Jesus in Indianapolis in July of twenty twenty-four. Welcome back to the Lenten Lessons on the Mass Premium Edition. Today, I want to teach you a little bit about what the church teaches us about how to receive holy communion. Do you know how to receive holy communion? When Our Lady appeared to Adele Bryce at the Shrine of Our Lady of Good Help, Nearby Champion, Wisconsin, her message was simple, clear, and direct. She said, gather the children in this wild and frontier area. Teach them what they need to know for their salvation. Teach them to make the sign of the cross, teach them to receive the sacraments fruitfully and so as part of our duty as priests and teachers and parents to teach people how to receive holy communion worthily so the church teaches us in the Latin, right? That's about 99. 9% of all Catholics throughout the world that you have to be the age of reason that seven years or older, used to be older until Popeyes the tenth in the early 1900s changed it. So, the children could receive Holy your child has to be old enough to be able to extinguish the consecrated bread from regular bread. They need to be at the age of reason, have to be practicing Catholic in the state of grace, alright? So, we shouldn't receive holy communion if we have an unconfessed mortal sin on our soul and we should keep the fast from food and beverage for an hour. Madison is not food or beverage. Taking an aspirin is not going to break your fast and it's not that long of a fast. It used to be in the Catholic Church you had to fast from midnight the night before until mass the next morning. Now, it's just a one-hour fast and when we receive holy communion in the Catholic Church in this country, you are free to receive communion on the tongue or on the hand. Standing up or kneeling down and then, if you do receive on your hand, your hands are dirty, maybe that they'd be better to receive on your tongue and then we say amen to Jesus and we consume the Blessed Sacrament knowing that we've received our lord and savior Jesus Christ, who's come to us, who wants to be with us. Did you like what you learned today? Well, there's a lot more where that came from. So, stay tuned.
