      Critics Consensus

Dull, derivative, and generally uninspired, No Good Deed wastes its stars' talents -- and the audience's time.

Lin N Suspenseful with great acting. I liked the little twist at the end which made it make more sense. Idris did a GREAT job. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Michael S Formulaic thriller that's been done better many times before. Twist ending doesn't make up for the rest of the film. Idris Elba is menacing, but his southern accent is shaky. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 11/16/22 Full Review Audience Member Would have loved if this movie was more suspenseful or if there was more character development. The movie starts off by telling you that the main character is indeed a liar, prompting you not to trust him. The series of events that unfold after, are then quite predictable. There was nothing drawing me into the story, I think they are both great actors but the movie was a disappointment. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member really nice one! interesting Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member Great, on-the-edge of your seat, movie...I would see it again.. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/23/23 Full Review Audience Member A comedic farce, provided you have a few stiff drinks before watching. I'm a fan of Idris Elba, so I thought I would enjoy this thriller. It took less than ten minutes to realize this pathetic hackneyed imitation of a bad guy-convict in the run meets various cleavage revealing clicks flick was best appreciated in an altered state, so a few martinis later, I enjoyed it as a movie so bad it turned the corner and became a spoof on itself. Mark Kermode Observer (UK) There's a few table-turning twists that lend a veneer of final-girl sister-power ... but little else to provide big-screen distraction. Rated: 2/5 Nov 23, 2014 Full Review Geoffrey Macnab Independent (UK) It is dismaying to see the brilliant Idris Elba and Sam Miller, his director from TV's Luther, working on low-grade exploitation fare like this. Rated: 1/5 Nov 21, 2014 Full Review Wendy Ide Times (UK) Not content with painting Idris Elba's escaped convict Colin as a thoroughly bad sort, the suspense-free home invasion movie No Good Deed has a score that assaults us with histrionic crashes and bangs. Rated: 1/5 Nov 21, 2014 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Idris Elba makes everything better, even a hackneyed home-invasion thriller modeled from Cape Fear. But not even Elba nor a talent like that of his co-star Taraji P. Henson can rescue No Good Deed from being a dull, poorly structured bore. Rated: 1.5/4 Jul 29, 2022 Full Review Debbie Lynn Elias Behind The Lens Although there are some continuity issues and plot points that bode disbelief, it doesn't detract from the white-knuckling terror that unfolds. Rated: 3/5 Dec 14, 2019 Full Review Micheal Compton Bowling Green Daily News It's not very easy to watch. Maybe it could be easier to take if the script was better, but this is low-level storytelling with too many head-scratching moments. Jan 25, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews
