Nikola Vlasic: West Ham sign midfielder from CSKA Moscow

West Ham have signed Croatia midfielder Nikola Vlasic from CSKA Moscow.

The Hammers will pay 30m euros (£26.8m), plus 9m (£7.7m) in add-ons for the 23-year-old, who has signed a five-year contract that includes the option for an extra year.

Vlasic has 26 caps for Croatia, four of which came at Euro 2020, including as a substitute against England at Wembley.

He joined Everton in August 2017 for £10m and made 19 appearances before joining CSKA in the summer of 2019.

The deal could end West Ham's hopes of bringing Jesse Lingard back to the club from Manchester United.

Lingard, having fallen out of favour at Old Trafford, scored nine goals in 16 games after joining West Ham on loan in January.

Vlasic has played more than 250 senior matches in his career, which began at Hajduk Split.

He scored 33 goals and assisted 21 for CSKA in the past two seasons and was named Russian Premier League Footballer of the Year in 2020.

He's easily as good as someone you'd find in an England starting 11 if not better. David Moyes knows where to find quality at a fraction of the cost of our homegrown players. I can easily see West Ham challenging for Europe this season.

Moyes record with transfers as of late has been absolutely spot on with Benrahma, Lingard, Soucek, Coufal. Vlasic adds much needed EL depth in an already quality attack.

For all the salty Man Utd fans wondering why we haven't funded them toward a much needed DM, Lingard at £30m when he's on a free in 9 months just isn't economically viable. If we still want him, we'll get him next year - for free

As a United fan, I was delighted to see Jesse do so well at the Hammers last season and was kind of glad we brought him back into the squad. Sadly though it looks like we are going to leave him to go to waste on the bench, so I hope someone comes in for him and we let him go. £30 mill with contract expiring does seem a bit high though, you are right.

This is a decent signing at a good price, considering his age and quality. He didn’t get a chance at Everton, because of Koeman’s sacking and Allardyce’s pig ignorance. He’s gone from strength to strength in Moscow and for the Czechs. Moyes will get the best out of him. Welcome aboard, Nicky, SON!

He had a good Euro 2020, I thought there would be a lot of interest in him.
Moyes has got a good deal, and a sellable asset in a couple of years mores the pity.

As a Spurs fan, all I have to say is welcome to the EPL, young man. I think you will either make it or not. I enjoy the banter between London clubs and your manager is not a bad judge of player as he was made out to be. We will see over the season who gets it right or who gets it wrong. It looks like the circus has turned up at Man United.

Antonio is absolutely brilliant but we all know he will miss 10/13 games due to injuries. We desperately need to sign a striker or two not more and more midfielders! Troy Deeney would have been a good short term signing!

West Ham. Who all summer didn’t have the £25 million for lingard (they offered £15 million and complained he was overpriced ) suddenly spends £39 million on kurt zouma and £27 million on this lad.
