Niklas Süle to join Borussia Dortmund from Bayern Munich
Borussia Dortmund have moved to strengthen their defence for the coming season by signing Niklas Süle from Bundesliga rivals Bayern Munich.
Süle, whose contract at the Allianz Arena expires in June, has agreed a four-deal with BVB, where he will be reunited with former Bayern centre-back Mats Hummels at the heart of Dortmund's defence.
"We're delighted that in Niklas we've been able to sign a Germany international on a free transfer and for four years," said Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc in a statement on the club's official website.
"Niklas demonstrated personally during our discussions that he's got a great desire to come to Borussia Dortmund," added Sebastian Kehl, who will take over from Zorc in the summer. "He's got a lot of experience, is calm on the ball and has the necessary physique to be able to take the next step with us from the summer onwards."
Süle started out in the Eintracht Frankfurt youth academy and, after a brief switch to local rivals Darmstadt, made his breakthrough at Hoffenheim, where he developed into a full Germany international under current Bayern head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
The 26-year-old joined Bayern in summer 2017 and to date he has made 159 competitive outings for the reigning Bundesliga champions, scoring six goals. He has won the league title four times, as well as two DFB Cups, four DFL Supercups and was part of Bayern’s sextuple-winning side that claimed the UEFA Champions League in 2019/20.
