Just average
So once again I am disappointed that Amazon NEVER gives me a movie with the slip cover, but the only problem I had was that the Blu-Ray had damage on it. Other than that the movie is great. Four stars because I expected more. :|

I skipped this one when it came out as I had not seen the first two and so had no attachment to it.
This was probably a reasonable thing to do. I have seen it now, however.
The rom-com elements have pretty much vanished or, rather, have being melded with the fantasy so thoroughly that they cannot be distinguished.
Adults should enjoy the fantasy, but it is really done for the kids, not the adults.
The "smart-mouth fat museum guard" motif introduced in the second film is expanded here, becoming an integral part of the story and, by the end, a good one.
The quality of the film has not dropped: it is as well-done as the earlier two.
If you liked the earlier ones, you should like this one just as much, if not more.

Night at the Museum's the Secret of the tomb is (I think) the best of the NatM movies. It's sadly ironic that this one was the most hilarious of them all. The cave man, La, played by ben stiller himself was a riot. Especially when La called him "Dada"! And another irony is the fact that Robin Williams had a larger role in the movie as the wax figure of Teddy Roosevelt. And Mickey Rooney reprising his role as the acerbic old guard got in a few quips as well. It was surreal to watch (and enjoy) this movie knowing that Robin and Mickey are no longer with us. My deepest sympathies goes out to their families. But if I may offer a bit of consolation, they will live on through their great works. The plot to this movie was a good one, where the first two were mainly about protecting the magical museum and keeping it secret, this latest one was suspenseful as they rush to England to save the golden tablet --which is starting to decay at an alarming rate-- that is the source of the ancient Egyptian power that enables the nightly animation of the museums exhibits. And the little Rhesus monkey is hilarious and the things that they have trained him to do is truly amazing! ***shigh*** Yes, The Secret of the Tomb is the best and funniest of the Museum series, but also the saddest. The world has lost two of comedies greatest talents. And the world is just a little less brighter without them.

"Eine tolle Fortsetzung und ein gelungener Abschluss einer einfach lustigen und magischen Trilogie"
Reviewed in Germany on October 19, 2015
Nach New York, Washington jetzt eben London.
Die Handlung ist sicher nicht anspruchsvollste doch sehr unterhaltsam. Man bekommt einfaches Popcorn Kino geboten.

The end !

The last ? in the trilogy of films about a a museum night guard Larry Daley ( Ben Stiller ) who is amassed to find all the exhibits come to life from dusk until dawn thanks to a special magic tablet …. NO ! not one with a 11” colour screen and a quad core processor …. it's an original Egyptian one made out of gold.
A a fund raising event at the museum the night show … which everyone but Larry thinks is special effects, goes horribly wrong. The reason for this is because the tablet is loosing it's power and getting covered by some sort of green corrosion.
The only person who knows the secret to the tablets rejuvenation is Ahkmenrah's farther Ahkmenrah ( Ben Kingsley in another 'non smiling' role … if they ever decided to make a remake of the original Star Trek TV series they should use Mr Kingsley as Mr Spock ). Unfortunately Ahkmenrah died almost 3000 years ago and the tablet must be repaired prior to daybreak. As usual Larry is not deterred and goes off to do some research about the tablet. After an impromptu chat with the computer games playing archivist Rose ( Andrea Martin 30 Rock ) Larry discoverer the 'resting place' of the rest of the 1938 Egyptian archaeological expedition collection and the true identity of Cecil Fredericks ( Dick Van Dyke ), one of the original guards from the first film of the trilogy.
Larry persuades the sacked museum manager Mr McPhee ( Ricky Gervais ) to let him take the tablet & Ahkmenrah to The Natural History Museum in London but when Larry gets home ready to quickly pack for a trip to to find his teenage son Nick ( Skyler Gisondo aka The Amassing Spiderman ) having an unauthorised party at home.
Larry arrives in London with Nick, tablet & Ahkmenrah and drives to the museum to deliver his 'goods', but has to get past his British counterpart Tilly ( Rebel Wilson … Bridesmaids & Pitch Perfect ) but unfortunately / fortunately so does Jedediah Smith ( Owen Wilson ), Octavius Caesar ( Steve Coogan ), Attila the Hun ( Patrick Gallagher … did you know he also played a Jaffa Commander called Abyss in the TV series Stargate SG-1 … which also has a loose connection with an Egyptian archaeological expedition ), Sacajawea ( Mizuo Peck ), Dexter ( Crystal The Monkey ), Laaa ( a new caveman from the New York museum who is also played by Ben Stiller ) and last but not least Theodore 'Teddy' Roosevelt ( played by the late / great Robin Williams ).
Now you can's have a British quest without a knight & a dragon, so enter Sir Lancelot du Lac possibly he most well known Knight of the Round Table ( Dan Stevens ) who postpones his quest for the 'Holly Grail' to 'help' Larry and co get past the now animated London exhibits to the Egyptian display area. On the way Lancelot gives Nick a 'pep talk' about love and they crew 'loose Jedediah & Octavius down a ventilation shaft and get involved in the 79AD volcanic eruption near the Roman city of Iiepmop … sorry Pompeii & must also be rescued.
To add to their problems the tablet is stolen and a chase takes place across night time London which also involves a guess appearance by James Howlett aka Wolverine ( Huge Jackman ) who even has time for a Wolverine pose. As dusk approaches one by one the New York museum exhibits start to turn back into just that, lifeless exhibits, for the last time !
This is a brilliant movie and a fitting end to the trilogy. The comedy comes fast & furious with apparently many off script ad-libs included in the final cut. The comedy acting / skills of Ricky Gervais, Steve Coogan and Robin Williams are clearly well used by director Shawn Levy ( Real Steel, The internship & Night at the Museum 1 & 2 ).
Let us not forget two actors who have sadly dies since making this movie :-
Mickey Rooney died in April 2014 at the age of 93 with almost 340 acting credits to his name. Married 8 times he stared alongside may acting greats of his day including Judy Garland & Audrey Hepburn. His last 'silver screen' role was in Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde ( 2015 ) in which he played Mr. Louis. In a film career spanning 50 years he never won an Oscar but was a legendary actor on both stage and screen in his own lifetime and will hopefully not be forgotten.
Robin Williams, in my humble opinion, was one of the best comedy actors of our time. His comedy genius first came to audiences attention in the TV series Happy Days followed by Mork & Windy plus his staring role as the spinach eating Popeye in the 1980 film of the same name. Prior to his death in August 2014 aged 63 he had over 100 acting credits to his name plus another 16 as a writer, director or producer. His acting talents we also recognised for his non comedy roles like 'Good will hunting' for which he won an Oscar plus he was awarded six Golden Globes for his other work.
His voice talents were always in demand, Happy Feet 1 & 2, Robots & the Aladdin animated movies with his last film being the comedy / sci -fi 'Absolutely Anything' staring Kate Beckinsale & Simon Pegg, which I understand in currently in post-production, as the voice of Dennis.
He had many addition and health problems with re-accruing depression which resulted in his suicide in 2014.
If for nothing but seeing this great man in action for the last time on the 'silver screen' I strongly suggest you buy / go see 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb' rated PG.
