Editorial Reviews

"Live at the Roundhouse" is unlike any other concert film connected with Pink Floyd. It's the nearest thing you can get to a time machine, transporting you back to the very earliest days of the band. Nick Mason, the only band member to have played on all of Pink Floyd's studio albums, returns to the group's earliest records, joined in the line-up by Gary Kemp, Guy Pratt, Lee Harris and Dom Beken. Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets took the drummer back to clubs for the first time in 1967, then to theatres, across the UK, North America and Europe, playing only music his old band had recorded before The Dark Side of the Moon. Captured from the band's celebrated shows at London's Roundhouse, where Pink Floyd played some of their most revered early shows in the 1960s, this release features a uniquely thrilling set list including songs hailing from Syd Barrett's time with the band. Only four songs from this eclectic roster have ever previously appeared on official live releases by Pink Floyd or it's members. Everything else is being experienced for the first time since their original live performances.

A Saucerful of Nick !

A Saucerful of Nick !
I’ve waited quite a while (February 2020) , for this to get released . The music is good , I found it awesome that Nick Mason did songs that were all pre-Dark Side of The Moon . If you don’t like Syd Barrett’s Floyd or early experimental Floyd , you will not like this . The CD recording and DVD package I received were in good condition . But the outside box was cheaply made of very thin cardboard and the cds and DVD are in flimsy dust covers . I have listened to the entire 2 cds and I wasn’t disappointed ! The recording is itself is excellent and the musicians that Mason picked are very well placed . I haven’t watched the DVD yet but that should be the best part of the package or so I’m hoping . I will give a later review to say how that was .
Thank you for your feedback

Yeah,....Nick's tour of Pre_"Dark Side of The Moon" Floyd was cut short by this disease ....but now we can see and hear what the fuss was about!

Here we get a great selection of very early Pink Floyd tracks played live and in a great order that , to me, shows that Nick had great respect for the band's founder Syd Barrett . Songs are sequenced with a master's hand ,flowing to set a tone that really shines out in this age of "one shot" download singles showing how an album's sequence can bring out so much more "meaning" in songs. This album (and concert) moved along through songs carefully placed so that one "feeling" enlightens the listener of the song's meaning and spirit of the next!

I've read some reviews where the writer was "miffed" by the band's not representing the raw spirit of Syd's Floyd....but I would ask them , "Who could?" Beside , this isn't even named "Pink Floyd"...it is one member of that band's crew playing songs he really felt need to be aired once more. This could also be for a new generation to hear their live versions in person?

In any case, what is here are versions of these tracks played for the fun of it. You can really hear the group enjoying themselves performing here! In these arrangements there are bits of other songs tossed in for reference , some not by The Floyd! Early in the show some WHO-like riffs are evident ,and this feels like it enhances the sound of the tunes and shows how all these bands influenced each other during that classic late 1960's era.

I feel that after years of hearing other bands cover and emulate early Pink Floyd, it's about time to hear a true member playing these songs from their innocent , "searching" days before all you ever would hear about was Dark Side of The Moon. There was a lot to love from back in those days , and a lot to enjoy right here too,...be it for the first time , or for the millionth time!

My Hat is off to Nick and his band...great job!

I LOVE concert DVD'S. I LOVE Pink Floyd. With the exception of the "Meddle" album, I have pretty much ignored the pre-"Dark Side Of The Moon" recordings my entire life. The few (and I mean very few) tracks I actually heard from that period did nothing for me and thus also convinced me that exploring that earlier catalog of music further was pointless. However, because I knew and was fond of a few titles found on Nick Mason's "Saucerful Of Secrets", I decided to roll the dice and purchase this new release. My God! What an AWESOME concert!!! The flow of this concert is perfection. The band is tight and top-notch. Those songs I'd ignored for 50 years (give or take) are stunning! The sound and visuals (remember I bought this primarily for the DVD) are tremendous! I watched it for the first time last night, then immediately watched it AGAIN! I would say that this show has been instantly catapulted into my personal Top 10 Concert DVD'S!!! I own approximately 260 of them btw.
So, yes indeed, I personally would without reservations highly recommend this great set! Thank you Nick Mason!

I'm major impressed with Nick Masons outing with Saucerful of Secrets. I'm a huge Floyd fan from beginning till end, but I've always had a major love of the early stuff. Piper at the Gates, and Saucerful are two of my all time favorites. He basically put together a Crack band of musicians that have a love of the early sound. This is the music that never got played in their later years. Really some of the best. I bought it as a companion piece to the show I won't attend till October. I'm more then a little psyched. Great recording and beautifully done. Highly recommend to all Floyd lovers.

All I can say is WOW! This is the Pink Floyd material I've loved for many years but never seen it performed live other than three of the songs included here. Sure, I love Dark Side of the Moon and the albums after, but the early stuff has been hidden away for way too long. Nick Mason has put together a great band and taken this live show to amazing levels. So nice to hear one of my favorite obscurities "Green Is the Color" done to perfection! So many great songs, was also a lot of fun to hear "Bike!" What a wonderful adventure this show is. Great package and well worth the money spent on it. Thanks for releasing this treat Nick!

This album is really good. The songs are deeper tracks from early Floyd albums and are really well done. Pillow of Winds I don't think that I have a original quartet live version of. The one here, really shows that they could have pulled it off. The More and Obscured by Clouds tracks are really good too.

I believe that Nick Mason brought this tour to Seattle and I could have gone. I am pretty sure that my wife asked me to go. I am olde now and don't like attending live music much any longer so I turned it down. However, based on these tracks, I really wish I had gone to see this show.

Nick Mason's A Saucerful of Secrets Band put this together and it so rocks! I saw them in 2019 in Texas and it was a step back in time to 1964. Pink Floyd's drummer can still put on a great concert. The soundtrack duplicates the sound of being at the live show all over again! This is a must have for all Pink Floyd fans of all ages but it does focus on the early years of the band. So younger fans may not recognize some of the material.

This is a roughly 2 hour concert of early Pink Floyd material featuring Nick Mason and helped by others including Guy Pratt who has toured with Pink Floyd's latter year.
I had wished they included the option not to show non-concert footage between come tracks. In addition, coiming in at rougfhly 3 hours total, the audio/video quality starts to deteriate on a DVD.
The disc includes around an hours worth of interviews with the five band members plus a measly 4.5 minute rehearsal video.
Not surprisingly the video is great. Well know tracks such as Interstellar Overdrive, One of These Days and Arnold Layne mixed in with lesser tracks.
