This is a very flat album by Ric, no bad songs but the tone is constant throughout. It's the kind of songs one would play sitting in the backyard to a group of friends.
Highlights for me are "Come On" which does have some oomph, and the only song that has some lead from a guitar. "Silver" sounds like a Neil Young song and is pretty decent. Other good songs are "In a little bit" and "It Gets Crazy"

The Cars debut and sophomore LPs were the first records that I sought out and purchased with my own hard-won kid-cash. But, I admit that I haven't bothered with The Cars work nor Ric's solo work for over 25 years. Only accidentally did I learn recently that he had recorded this solo LP in 2005.
After the first listen, I can say that Ric's writing powers are as strong as ever, with many catchy tracks. All of side 1 is very good. Overall, however, the record lacks a certain spark and it seems most likely due to Ric's one-man-band approach to the recording. As a result, he relies heavily on programmed percussion and drums. This robs many of the tracks of vitality. Also, most of the tracks would have benefitted from stronger lead guitar work. The tracks 'Crackpot', 'In A Little Bit', and 'Silver' are good examples of this.
However, I do like this LP despite these criticisms. If you are a Cars or Ric fan, already, then I recommend this strongly. Please make another one soon, Ric.

Can't say that there's anything on here that I'm OTT wild about, but by the same token there's nothing that I find lousy either. Ric remains Ric, for better or for worse. There's very little here that won't occasionally cause a Cars flashback, but that's to be expected when you consider that the voice and guitar style have remained very constant over the years. This is one of those releases that I don't see grabbing for a road trip right now, but after repeated listenings I just might.

Does anybody know, how old this man really is? Not, that it is important in any way, but nevertheless it would interest me a lot. After all the years with The Cars (1978-1988) and as a solo artist (1982-?) Ric Ocasek still is as lanky and thin and elegant and distant and enigmatic as ever.
Ric's home-made new album Nexterday (a funny expression by his youngest son for 'tomorrow') represents all of the qualities, that this real artist has shown over a period of almost thirty years. It's witty, it's catchy, it's cool, and it's filled up with well hidden sentiment. Great tunes and great tunes within tunes galore.
My most favorite songs at the moment: "In a Little Bit", "Silver" and the typical final epic "It Gets Crazy". Well, and of course "Don't Lose Me", a tune, that bands like Weezer or Franz Ferdinand would kill for.
Elsa loved Rick in "Casablanca", and I love Ric on almost every one of his recordings. He definitely still has the skill.
