Help with Hotel for our 20th Anniversary

Hi,

First time visitors or NYC. Husband and I are celebrating our 20th. Coming into town Memorial Weekend for 3 nights. What we want in a hotel neighborhood...

Good food/coffee close (I'm an early riser and we are both foodies)

Safe

Luxury(ish) since it's our anniversary but doesn't have to be super fancy

Definitely going to a show at Hudson Theater and want to see the MET

Walkable (I don't want to have to take a cab or subway every single time we leave)

We love live music (so jazz bar or other live music in walking distance is a bonus)

Once we get a hotel nailed down then we can start filling in the rest..

Thanks in advance!

The Refinery Hotel is walking distance to the Hudson Theater and has a jazz club called Winnie's. It's also not far from Birdland and Iridium and Dizzy's Coca Cola, other jazz places. In fact most hotels in the west 40’x-50’s would be near the theater and these jazz clubs. The Michelangelo and the Conrad Midtown are aome other options, a bit closer to Central Park.

The Carlyle hotel may be much too expensive and fancy, but it's right near the Met and has Bemelman's bar, iconic with piano and also Cafe Carlyle.

I will second the suggestion of the Michelangelo. The marble, crystal, and brass give it a luxury feel without the luxury prices. Pretty much anything you might want in terms of food, drink, entertaining and sightseeing is within a few blocks. ( Well, maybe not everything, but plenty!)

The Park Central is a more modern hotel, and it is more of a high-rise. It is a few blocks further north, closer to Central Park, and is just across the street from Carnegie Hall. The location and the upper-floor rooms are both probably quieter than the Michelangelo. The decor at the Michelangelo is more traditional, but the rooms are very large.

I have stayed at both, and would happily return to either one.
