This restaurant is absolute perfection. Make reservations. From the minute we walked in the door this place was on it! We were seated right away and were acknowledged right away. Everything on this menu looks delicious. The dining room is beautiful the way it is...set up, kind of circular, the waitstaff all look great. We ordered drinks, i had a drink called game day (12.00) and my husband ordered a glass of wine (13.00). I had made up my mind what i wanted for dinner before we even walked in the door. I got the scalibut (38.00), a combination of scallops and halibut and i think a piece of lobster. It was delicious. My husband ordered the gnocchi (21.00) it was also delicious, the sauce was delicious and so was the pasta, it was small and looked different than any other gnocchi have ever had. I think it was probably the best gnocchi I have ever had. I forgot to mention the biscuits...delicious and i don’t normally like bread items that are served but those were delicious. After the second one i had to push my plate to the other side of the table or i could have eaten a ton. Unfortunately we had eaten lunch and were pretty stuffed, wish we hadn’t because i would have loved to try more food and even a dessert but we couldn’t. Total bill for 2, two entrees and two drinks $92.78 but totally worth it. Excellent, perfection.More

We made a reservation; when we arrived at 6:45 (on a weekday) there was an hour and 45 minute wait at the bar and an hour for the dining room. I WOULD HAVE WAITED if we didn't have a reservation. A word regarding the "Dress...Code": gentlemen, wear a danged collared shirt at the least. That's all they ask, and even though you may be on vacation, this is a fine dining restaurant. There were plenty of men wearing jackets, but as long as you wear a collared shirt and no sneakers, you're in. Ladies, I saw everything from fancy dresses to polished, business casual. I wore pants and a dressy blouse and felt comfortable. We got seated immediately and from start to finish, this was a high end meal that kept us "ooh"ing and "ahh"ing. We had the snapper belly and pork belly appetizers, Shalibit and yellow fin tuna entrees and bread pudding for dessert. Hubs drinks beer and I had a glass of house Riesling (not a big wine fan but this was very good). All that for under $150? Would do this again and again. (Plus, Karl-Anthony Towns came in for dinner and sat right behind us...if you don't know KAT, well, it says something that a sports celebrity would choose a restaurant to get away from the fray)More

The four of us loved everything about our experience at GW Fins. The staff were awesome, with a special shout out to our waiter Paul who explained the menu beautifully, made great recommendations and was so friendly. The food was outstanding. We tried the pork...belly, sizzling oysters, lobster ravioli, the halibut with scallops, snapper and drum fish. Every bite was sublime. The biscuits were over the top. The atmosphere is great. We all said it was the best restaurant we have tried in a long time. We each had a pre dinner drink and then two bottles of wine and our bill was $350.00 with out the tip.More

We were really looking forward to our visit to this restaurant having read all the reviews online & had booked it 10 days prior to visiting New Orleans. When we arrived at the restaurant, we were met at the door by a young woman who...scowled at us as we walked in saying "wait there" but were then brought to our table by a more pleasant chap. Service was fine and the food was mediocre, nothing to write home about. The tuna tartare was tasteless and the scalibut was average, have had better scallops! The restaurant had no atmosphere and we were in and out within 50 minutes. I would not be back to this restaurant as I was disappointed with the meal. Having stayed in New Orleans for several days, we ate in other restaurants that had far superior food, better atmosphere, more pleasant staff and less expense.More

First time being at GwFins and it will definitely won't be the last time. Food was awesome. We started with some appetizers: seafood gumbo and shrimp salad, For the entrees my wife ordered the salmon and I ordered the drum with a side of wild...mushroom risotto. We also had a bottle of moscato with our meal. Great Meal. If you dont finish the bottle of wine you can take the test in to go cups. Service was great and overall a great experience. It is on the pricey side about $150-160 for my wife and myself but again food and ambiance where great.More

I had to be in New Orleans for business in mid March, right as everything was shut down from the Coronavirus. Luckily, GW Fins was offering take out three course meals for $30, so I got food there both nights. In spite of the mess,...the service was friendly and professional. Better yet, the food was outstanding, even when eating from a box in my hotel room. The gumbo, pork belly, tuna, grouper, and desserts were all awesome. While I’m glad to be leaving, I will miss these outstanding meals! PS - long wait due to high demand so be sure to call in your order at least an hour in advance.More

I ordered the drum fish, another of our party had the swordfish, and two had the sheepshead. We all sampled each other’s fish and everyone said they liked mine the best. The two that had the sheepshead said theirs were overcooked and they would not...order again if we were to return. We also ordered appetizers... tuna tartar and smoked oysters. I was not fond of either but the other couple liked the oysters. Nobody cared for the tartar. Our reservations were for 9pm and many of the other tables were starting to finish up when we got there. Still it took forever to get our orders taken and then to get our meals. For that the waiter apologized. We decided to order a creme brulee and I also ordered a cappuccino Fin with it. The creme brulee came very late. After it was finished and I finally saw our waiter again, I reminded him I still had not received my cappuccino. He quickly returned with it and apologized again and said he did not charge me for it. So was this just a bad night for this restaurant? I don’t know. But with so many options of outstanding fine dining in the area, I doubt we try here again any time soon.More

Called ahead and made a reservation for my husband’s birthday. We were immediately seated upon arrival and taken to the BEST seat in the house! They’d not only pre-decorated the table for him, but also presented him with a personalized menu for his birthday. It...got better from there. Our waiter was outstanding and the food...the food...was incredible. Inventive and fresh. The ceviche appetizer with jalapeño sorbet was borderline mind blowing. GW Fins has become our new go-to when we visit New Orleans!More

I made reservations weeks in advance to be certain to get a window table and let them know it was an anniversary dinner for my wife and me. Upon arrival, they had prepared the table with special decorations and gave us a personalized menu in...the form of a scroll! How wonderful! The service was top notch, and every restaurant employee who passed by our table wished us a Happy Anniversary. What a well-run restaurant. The best part was the food. My wife and I have enjoyed a wide range of high end restaurants in the past, but the food was the BEST EVER!! We highly recommend the special "Scalibut" - a halibut steak coated with sliced scallops to look like fish scales. WOW!! When the Corona Virus emergency is over, this is a must stop for anyone who enjoys seafood and great service.More

I found my experience here rather bizarre. I booked a table for 2 arrived on Thursday night at 9. Unfortunately the other person was ill and could not make it. Waited 15mins to be seated. It was super busy so my first tip is always...book - app based booking via open table . Restaurant has two sections- bar and the white table dining in a semi circular design. Sat down and then they realised it was only me and Things got a bit strange. The waiter seems rather perplexed with the whole situation and made it rather awkward eating for one. They came around with what was called a biscuit but was really a scone like consistency and appearance- was very good. Extensive wine list with some amazing US wines. Portions are rather large so ordered two starters. The lobster dumpling which was excellent followed by the gumbo which was average as it had an over powering taste of bay leafs. Both dishes came at the same time which was odd. Usually it would be first dish and followed by second. In all fairness the food came out really quickly. Nice ambience inside bit on the loud side.More

We had made a reservation a month ahead of time to ensure we got to eat here. When making the reservation I hadn’t appreciated that the only chance of seeing a Mardi Gras parade in our 2 night stay would be at a similar time...so had to juggle the two! We turned up 5 minutes early and were shown straight to our table - in the middle of a large dining area. Loads of tables around us so was quite noisy but nothing to spoil our evening (unlike the fact we were sitting under a fan which was needlessly on with the temperatures outside and caused us to feel cold for the entire meal). Service was excellent all night - one person dedicated to you to take orders and ensure things are OK and then others who actually deliver the food. The menu is mainly seafood but there are other choices for meat eaters. We decided to have salads to start so we could have a dessert later on. My wife had the beet salad and I had the 3 wedge version. Both were simple, elegantly presented and tasty. The star of the show was the scalibut (no not a new fish but a great combo of halibut with slices of scallop of top). Beautifully cooked and so tasty especially with the well matched sauce, risotto and vegetables. We also had the side of brussel sprout leaves which was a great addition. With a combination of feeling fuller than we expected and the hope we could catch the last part of the parade outside we decided not to have dessert. Excellent all round - except feeling cold!More

Two couples out to celebrate a birthday during Mardi Gras last week. We were immediately seated upon arrival and taken to the best seat in the house! They’d not only pre-decorated the table for my friend, but also presented her with a personalized menu. Our...waiter CARDELL was excellent! Very knowledgeable, professional and his recommendations were valued! We had lobster dumplings, smoked oysters, and redfish ceviche. Oysters were the Best we had the entire trip! Two salads, the triple wedge, and shrimp remoulade. I had the sea scallops which were divine! My wife had the parmesan mangrove, friends had bluefin tuna, and Louisiana grouper. All dishes were great. Bluefin is very rich and filling. Finished with Salty Malty Ice Cream Pie and birthday treat. Entire experience was great, timing of the courses perfect, and Cardell exceeded expectations! If you enjoy Fine Dining and are in New Orleans, do yourself a favor and get a reservation at GW Fins.More

Absolutely everything was exceptional. The wait staff, especially Brenda, made us feel like we were the only ones in the restaurant despite it being packed. Everyone was friendly and attentive, making us feel special. Then to food; where to begin? Every item was cooked fresh....The scrumptious biscuits were unending, I had four. The lobster dumplings appetizer was simply to die for. We shared a wedge salad with blue cheese that came in three triangle servings and was delicious. I had the Bedford scallops on a bed of mushroom risotto and my wife had the sheepshead fish both of which we raved about. We also had the crawfish fritters which were incredible, We topped it all off with the chocolate pecan bread pudding which was decadent, but, it being the occasion of my birthday, I also got a special truffle on a "Happy Birthday" drizzled plate with a candle and a personal copy of the menu with my name printed, Every manager stopped by as well as Gary the owner to ensure our experience was perfect. We have been around a while and eaten at many nice restaurants, but GW Fins ranks at the top!More

I made the reservation for my husband & I online bc it was listed as a top seafood restaurant in NoLa and they did not disappoint. We had dinner here on the 1st Saturday after New Years and was quite busy considering it is quite...a large restaurant. It is right in the French Quarter but not as touristy as most of the restaurants in the area. It was more dressy than I expected, so don't go in gym sneakers & ripped jeans. Our waitress was fantastic, professional, & took great care of us. The support staff was also great with keeping our water glasses always full and serving us their delicious biscuits. I ordered a martini and hubby an old fashioned and both were perfect. Our apps & entrees were beautifully presented, flavorful, & delicious. Instead of dessert, I had an espresso martini- YUM! They definitely lived up to their reputation and I would HIGHLY recommend a superb dining experience here!More

By far the best service we can remember. Wait staff is attentive and the relaxing meal was PERFECTLY paced. Crowded but you aren't jam packed in. This must be THE place to work in the city because all of the all staff; hosts, wait, servers,...bus staff were friendly, engaging and professional. You really feel welcomed and appreciated. And then there is the food. We ordered the pork belly appetizer - very good. The table next to us ordered the triple iceberg wedge and raved about it. We recommend the GW Fins original - perfectly cooked scallops and shrimp risotto. Salty Malty for dessert. Fantastic meal.More
