My time at New College had its ups and downs. The professors were fantastic. The research support was amazing. I don't know about the other departments, but my STEM education was phenomenal. The school was clearly underfunded and the dorms were falling apart, but there was character to the people here. The beaches are beautiful, but the student life outside of campus was dead. I would have given NCF 4/5 stars if that was all.
Unfortunately, the school was taken over by politicians who wanted to meddle with our education to score easy political points. Classes were removed after so many professors left. Some of the new professors had their tenure denied for no reason, so imagine what that's going to do regarding professor recruitment and retention over the next few years. Luckily, I was able to complete my degree, but I know of others who lost their advisors (or profs are overworked).
I would NOT recommend attending until this mess clears up and be cautious of recent reviews.

I enjoyed it UNTIL the governor appointed all the new trustees to the board. They are going to change this school and make it something it was never supposed to be, all because this governor wants to make a name for himself in his made-up war on woke.
Since January, more than 40 professors have left.
If you value educational freedom and being able to learn what you want to learn, sadly, New College is no longer the place.
I value the friends I have made here, but many of us are leaving.

I like that the academic advisors are professors so that students have someone to go to in the field of what they are interested in. I like how it is a small school. I would like to see an update with the dorms and water quality.
I have not as of yet started studying at New college of Florida but the interaction that I have had with the school has been amazing every time I call with a problem they always answer my questions and try to help me out the best that they can. I am soon going to attend a Welcome Wednesday section which I am supper excited for. I even received a summer career coach which will be helping me out throughout the summer with any question that I have, so overall as of now my experience has been amazing.
In my attendance to New College of Florida I’ve been granted more hands on experience and opportunities within my field than I’d imagine in my undergrad program. Meeting professionals and taking initiative in my education through New’s liberal arts programs I feel certain in my ability to take on the world and continue my career after this place. In the future I hope that NCF can be better supported through funding and have greater autonomy over its curriculum to continue the sort of work the professors and staff create to engage the student population in all their academic and career endeavors.
My experience at New College has had a tremendous impact on both my academic and personal life. The environment, professors, classes, and the structure of the school has allowed me to freely express myself and to think critically. I absolutely love New College as it feels like a place that I can call a second home.
I have had a great experience for my time at New College of Florida being a Freshman. The Professors have been wonderful.
The dorms and food have both been good.

I personally have loved New College. While it may not be for everyone I am thriving here as an undergraduate student. The way academics are set up have led me to be an independent thinker and learner. I have taken more leadership and career initiatives to get me experience through the connections I have made in various departments. The intimate classrooms really help make your learning experience the way you want it!
I'm an alum of New College and there is no better place to become an independent adult. I learned how to appraise evidence and think critically for myself about things that matter in the world. I was more conservative than most of my peers, but I still found a core group of wonderful friends that I'm still in touch with years later.
This college has a beautiful coastal campus with a very casual lifestyle. Everyone who attends is kind and open to conversation. When it comes to fitting in, you never feel judged or unwelcome.
I attended NCF for my freshman year and lived on campus, but I have since transferred and I have mixed reviews about it.
Most important things!
•Many cool classes offered and I think any major you choose you have lots of freedom to explore. I took a gardening class, they had one on vampire literature I really wanted.
•Because of the small class size, my experience was that people were very cliquey
•Only sport really offered is rowing, I joined and really loved it, it is open to anyone
•Food is good mostly and they always have vegetarian options
•I saw like 2 black students the entire time i was there
•I actually did not mind the campus, I liked how it was in nature. Furthermore though, the school does not have a lot of resources (money) to do much
•Although the school prides itself on being honors, I felt a lot of the people were there more to party (?) Parties were somewhat often, like once every two weeks. One big one every semester

I received a world class education in a small, intimate environment. The campus itself is absolutey beautiful. So many great sunsets were watched on Sarasota Bay. At New College, I truly learned how to think critically, write papers. I was completely prepared for my doctoral program in a way that many of my peers weren't. I wasn't afraid of large research projects, thinking critically and creatively thanks to New College.
Admissions and transfer coordinators are super helpful throughout the whole process! I knew it was the right fit since first visiting campus!
I haven't started college yet but I have been to their campus and they have an amazing facility and wonderful staff.
I graduated in 2016. Looking back on my experience, I can say that I am happy with the education, the professors, and the academic program overall. The long, and at the time, arduous thesis process has made me a better writer and researcher. Although, the experience of the student body was not great. To quote Mean Girls, “Did you make any friends?” “Yes.” “Were people nice?” “No.” Im not sure if that is most college campuses these days. I only remain in contact with one friend from that time period of my life.
I enjoyed New College for my undergrad. Was everything perfect, no, but no place is. Overall my experience was really good. Most of my professors were fantastic, they wanted to teach and help the students learn.
I can't recommend enough to new students that you sign up for classes taught by some of the adjunct professors. In my time there, I recall some standouts such as John Cranor (Former CEO of KFC) who taught a business class simply because he wanted to and enjoyed doing case studies with students. Also, Nat Colletta, who had a long career negotiating peace treaties for the UN.
The other part of NCF is that most of the students genuinely want to learn. My wife and I missed the random discussions we had, so now we have discussion nights with our friends, many of whom are also NCF alumni. NCF isn't for everyone, (Looking at you Frat Bros) you need to be self-motivated and love learning. If that sounds like you, and you don't mind mediocre food quality NCF may be a good fit

The academics and professors are excellent! I picked NCF because of the small class sizes and private school feel. It was helpful to have a faculty advisor in my discipline throughout my time here, and I am thankful she pushed me to take courses outside my major. It is a plus to have established positive relationships with multiple professors in my field. I highly recommend using the on-campus resources (Writing Resource Center, Center for Engagement and Opportunity, librarians, Counseling and Wellness Center, etc.). I enjoyed living in Sarasota (there is a lot to do) and using the bayfront. The only downsides of the college are the food (quality + meal times) and how hard it can be to fit in and make friends (even when active on campus). If given a choice, I would pick NCF again, as I have grown intellectually and feel prepared for grad school due to the rigor of the courses.
I loved that everyone is really close and helpful. The office is always supporting us with everything we need. The campus is absolutely beautiful and makes us happy. The meal plane is not so good for my personal lifestyle but they try to be inclusive.
A powerful campus, filled with positive energy and a strong academic community. I'm inspired by the small student body and the individual attention that will help me achieve my goals.
The professors and student body are amazing, they make everything easier and help the educational experience feel genuinely individual and supportive. The only downside is a general lack of communication from the administration that is the only serious downside to the school.
