Neurofunk (also known as Neuro) is a dark subgenre of Drum & Bass, sounding like a more darker and violent version of Dubstep, often referred to as Hard or Dark Drum & Bass.

Neaurofunk is characterized by its expressive lurching & aggressive bass, overlaid with rich layered soundscapes, featuring processed and enhanced sampled breakbeats, having a sludgy like sound, often having a bpm at around 170. Neurofunk, as described by Kwinten Crauwels, "sounds like the natural soundtrack of the brain: neurological chemicals flowing and rushing, creating both deeply obscure and delicate emotions."

Background & History[]

The first sounds of Neurofunk emerged from Techstep and Drum & Bass during the late 90s. It garnered a name for itself during the mid 90s when rave (especially in the UK) was dying out, and amassed popularity quickly. Although Neurofunk stayed as an underground genre during the 2000s, during that time the genre started developing its sound. Neurofunk reached the height of it's popularity in the mid 2010s, gaining more recognition and notice from the mainstream and from from the EDM community.
