Access to the Red Sea Ever since the fall of the Aksumite Empire, our realm didn't have any access to the sea, which connected us to the other Christians of the world. We must change it by conquering a port and extending it with a proper shipyard! After all, neither our troops nor our diplomats can turn into boats if they touch the water. |

Contact with Portugal Ever since the times of the great Negusa Nagast Dawit the I, our [Root.GovernmentName] had contact with the Europeans. But due to the long distances and the complications caused by the Mamluks, none of the Europeans could hold the contact with us permanently. This changed when the Portuguese started building their global empire and when they needed allies near to the Indian Ocean.
We should initialize the contact with the Portuguese! |

Market of the West The trade in the Red Sea was once one of the most important trade nodes in the world. It connected the Roman Empire with the riches of India, which allowed the Romans to enjoy Indian goods without having the trouble to deal with the Persians. This changed though when its successor, the Byzantine Empire, fell to the Ottoman Turks. Ever since, the Red Sea is no longer as profitable as it once was - and due to the colonialism of the Europeans, it most likely will never be again.
But we still have options. Thanks to our new found connection with the Europeans it is possible for us to be present in their much more active trade nodes. All we need to do is reach their rich market one way or another. |
Ethiopia controls at least 5% of the trade in any of the following trade nodes

Ethiopia: | Contact with Portugal |
Ideas of the West While our religion and culture is the most important aspect of our civilization. Technology wasn't really of great concern for us.
Until we found out what the Europeans are capable of. Due to our trade relations with the Europeans, merchants were able to experience the engineering of the European first hand. Especially their technological achievements in the military left our merchants highly impressed, and our nation worried. We must ensure that none of these Europeans get ahead of us! |
Ethiopia: | Ethiopia: | Market of the West |
Modernize the Army Our nation was able to see the efficiency and the brutality of the European armies in the past. Especially during the conflicts with the Sultanate Adal, [Root.GetName] witnessed the technological achievements in warfare thanks to the Portuguese. We should modernize our army and adapt the Western Technology or else our nation might fall to competent European invaders. |

Conquer the South Potential rivals exist at the southern borders of our great [Root.GovernmentName]. The Kingdom of Kaffa may be a fellow Coptic nation, but their kings have no interest in sharing their gold with our rightful [Root.Monarch.GetTitle]. The Kingdom of Ennarea is a sad excuse for a state and might only end up as a reinforcement of the eastern, Fetishist barbarians.
We should conquer the southern kingdoms and consolidate the Ethiopian region. |

Riches of Kaffa Of course people get rather upset when they lose their sovereignty to a foreign nation. This is how war and conquest work after all and usually the conquered people will adapt to their new overlords over time. However, in some cases the transition must be made more comfortable. Kaffa is one of these cases. Their gold is invaluable to our country, but as long the local population is upset we cannot mine the gold there. We should develop a better infrastructure in Kaffa and Damot to show our benevolent side. |

Train the Cawa The Cawa are the feudal noble class of our realm. These professional soldiers, once originally appointed by the Negusa Nagast himself, serve as the backbone of our military and ensure the peace in our remote provinces.
Still, there is always room for improvement. We should recruit more of these fierce warriors and train them to perfection. |

Resolve the Sabbath Issue Although it appears to be a trivial problem, our church is divided over the issue of Biblical Sabbath observance - and this for almost a whole century. While the loyalists of the Church of Alexandria believe that the day of rest should be observed on Sunday while the followers of Ewostatewos that both weekend days should be observed. If we want to maintain a religious unity we need to find a compromise for both groups. |

Take over Qasr Ibrim The Coptic faith has a strong connection to several Holy Sites in the world. One of these is the ancient city Qasr Ibrim, which served in the 8th century as the center of Christianity. However, its glorious days have found an end with its inhabitants turning towards the heathen beliefs. We should liberate it from its incompetent owner and turn the people there back to the true faith. |

Liberate Alexandria Alexandria is home to the ancient seat of the Coptic Patriarchate and the Coptic Pope. However, the church and a large part of the Coptic community suffer under foreign, infidel rule of the Mamluks. We must free the city from the Muslims and help the Copts, which are still in hiding. |

Conquer Antioch The ancient city Antioch was once the Cradle of Christianity and one of its major centers. Due to the Crusades and the spread of the Islam, this changed though and now it is only a shadow of its former self. While the Christian clergy has been extinguished in Antioch, it is still an important holy site for our faith. We must retake this ancient seat and restore the Christian authority in the Middle East. |

Damot and Hadiya Our vassal Damot once used to be a state, which subjugated the Sultanate Shewa. The other vassal, the Hadiya Sultanate, used to be part of Shewa.
While both nations sure have their history, they are nothing but subjects to us since the Zara Amda Seyon the I took matters in his hands and conquered both nations in the year 1309. Now the time has come that these two nations join our great empire! But in order to do this their rulers might need some persuasion first. |

Unify the Tribes Our realm was once the great Aksumite Empire, which reached from the deserts of Dongola all the way to the coast of Mukha in Yemen. However, this changed when the queen Gudit and her warriors of Semien sacked Aksum and murdered the Aksumite dynasty. Shortly after, the Empire fell apart in several tribes.
But now we have a new dynasty on the throne! One, which deserves the title of 'King of all Kings' and as such we will reconquer the territories of our fallen predecessor - starting with the unification of the tribes! |

Conquer Suakin The port Suakin has proven to be an important port for the trade in the Red Sea. Although it was never stated that the port used to be part of Aksumite Empire, it still has been a home to many [Root.GetAdjective] Christians until the city fell into the hands of the Muslims. As such we have more than enough reasons to take this port for ourselves and liberate the few Christians, who are still hiding there. |

Centralize the State The old monarchy of the Negusa Nagast has proven to be a rigid system. While the principle of the itinerant capital has shown its effectiveness in keeping an area under control, it has also shown how decentralized - how powerless - the state actually is. We must reform the government and centralize the power if we want our empire to survive. |

The Ancestors' Capital While our nation's greatest history is based on the great King Menelik and Queen of Sheba, we have a history even older than the stories of these two legends. Our great nation was once part of the Aksumite Empire - an empire of our ancestors. Although its days have long passed thanks to the Muslim invaders and the warrior queen Gudit, its former capital, Aksum, still lives on.
Nowadays it serves as the place of the crowning of our rulers. However, time has not been kind to the city and left its marks. We should renovate this city to ensure the preservation of our past. |

Restore Adulis No port is as important for the ancient Aksumite Empire than the port city Adulis. It has been the key point of ancient trade of the Red Sea and was very close to ancient Greece as well as the Byzantine Empire. Thanks to its location, it allowed Aksum to become the major power of the Red Sea.
Unfortunately, the city got captured by the Muslims around the year 702, which led to the isolation and the eventual inevitable doom of the Aksumite Empire. But not all is lost though! The infrastructure of the city is still intact. If we get this port back we can rebuild Adulis to a greater city than it ever was. |
