NASHVILLE, TN – Nashville SC announced the signing of winger Nebiyou Perry on a free transfer on Monday. Perry, 23, has played for both Sweden and the United States at youth levels, and was most recently with Östersunds FK in the Swedish top flight. From the club’s release:
A native of New York City, Perry has played his young career overseas in Sweden and Germany. He moved to Europe in 2015, where he joined the youth system of AIK in the top soccer league in Sweden. He then joined FC Köln II in Germany before returning to Sweden and joining Östersunds FK in 2019.
In 2020, Perry set a career-high in appearances with 26 while earning seven assists in the campaign for Östersunds FK. In total, the 23-year-old has made 72 appearances across all competitions overseas.
Perry is the fourth winger Nashville have signed this offseason, after making Jacob Shaffelburg’s loan from Toronto FC permanent, trading for Fafà Picault and signing Tyler Freeman. Shaffelburg had a significant impact on Nashville in 2021, while Picault is a proven veteran in MLS with a fairly consistent floor.
Secondary scoring has been a major concern for Nashville, with Hany Mukhtar shouldering an unsustainably disproportionate percentage of Nashville’s attacking burden. While Nashville haven’t made a massive splash in any of their attacking signings this offseason, they’ve picked up several low risk, high reward players who should at least give Nashville some sort of attacking punch from wide areas.
