Todd Rundgren is an original and extraordinary talent and has been producing and making his music for over five decades. This is one of his absolute best. I invite you to listen to this fantastically written, performed, and produced Album/CD. He never gets old.

This review is of catalog number FRM-25881 pressed on bright yellow vinyl and mastered by Joe Reagoso. As with the two LP set of “A Wizard, A True Star,” this is an impressive re-release of a classic record. The fidelity is huge, broad, and deep. What a chorus! Soulful and exhilarating. Some of Todd’s best singing. A departure from earlier releases where he played all the instruments himself, this is a capture of a studio packed with formidable musicians doing it all with a minimum of overdubs. So refreshing and so different from all the autotuned and processed stuff masquerading as music now. This will shake the doldrums out of your loudspeakers and your soul. Beautiful pressing. No surface noise and the wild yellow vinyl is a real eyecatcher. Dare we hope that someday we get the same fabulous upgrade for “Faithful” or “Healing?” I hope so. If so, I’m there. If you're a Todd fan with a turntable, buy it. If you're a Todd fan without a turntable, buy one, and then buy this. You won’t regret it.

Everything you want to know about this CD is already reviewed in the listings here... These are classical rock melodies enhanced by harpsichord and harp, embellished by Todd's awesome octaves and thoughtful, soulful singing and lyrics... (Which will pierce your heart and quicken your soul into rethinking all the travesties you may have caused another person in the name of "love".)
When I purchased this album at it's first release years ago, I was in the midst of a major break-up and plummeted into a severe depression with it. Rundgren has a way of delving into the human conscience as if he's got Jimminy Cricket hanging out on his keyboard. I came into these songs again watching the video performances in "The Desktop Collection", in retrospect, finding them to be gorgeous every time.
Again, I think this is classic music which never gets old. Twenty years later I can listen to it, love it, and appreciate the effort that went into creating it. In fact, this album is inspiring, insightful - and yes, a lot of fun to sing to. I would simply recommend that you get it! Just be sure it is long AFTER the break-up, when the healing has happened and you can appreciate what being "nearly human" really means.

I bought this vinyl version to put on my wall of album art. I have had the CD since it came out in 1980 something….
I saw Todd Rundgren on the Midnight Special with Wolfman Jack when I was 10 years old. Been a fan ever since. Almost Human is one of his best in my opinion. Rock n’ Roll and white boy Gospel and Soul.

I’m assuming Amazon is asking me to review the cd version and not the vinyl since that hasn’t arrived yet. So the review goes
Iike this...it was a great album when it was first released and is still great. The interview was completely unnecessary. This version doesn’t sound any different to my ears. I’m glad I bought it tho.

I liked this album when it came out and enjoyed the tour as well. The songs are very soulful and the band is a powerhouse. Todd's vocals are as strong as ever too.
I purchased this deluxe edition without knowing what the bonus tracks would be. This is not what I would consider a true deluxe edition. I was expecting more live tracks, alternate takes, etc. Still it is a cd that I really enjoy but I would purchase the regular edition and save a few bucks.

Arguably Todd's most complete and enjoyable album. The remastering on this disc is a welcomed relief after the original pressing of the CD had no spark. If you don't have a remaster of this CD, buy this one.

Very, very good album that was under appreciated when it was originally released. Glad to see Todd put it out again. Only regret that there weren’t any other songs added on. Any kind of remix, demo or live versions would have been greatly appreciated.

I have an original pressing which is slightly warped but plays fine. This remaster is 180 grams and perfectly flat and pressed on extremely quiet vinyl actually CD quiet! It's an improvement in every way - smoother treble fleshed out bass and more transparent - over all one of my favourite Todd albums! You can't lose!

Not what my husband expected it to be. We like his early music. Very different. It is a religious theme.
