Marquette Announces Decision On Shaka Smart After Big Season
Shaka Smart is going to be Marquette's men's basketball coach for a long, long time.
On Tuesday afternoon, the school announced that it had extended Smart's contract through the 2029-30 season. It comes after the team won 29 games and the Big East regular season title and tournament title.
Marquette also went on to be a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament before losing in the second round to Michigan State.
"In a very short period of time, Shaka and his staff have done a tremendous job of establishing a winning culture, both on and off the court," Vice President & Director of Athletics Bill Scholl said, via a press release. "Shaka's vision for the program is focused on extended, sustainable success. The individuals who interact with the team on a daily basis are able to observe frequent examples of growth and the excitement around the program is contagious."
Smart has a 48-20 overall record in his two seasons at the helm. He'll look to improve upon that when the 2023 season kicks off this fall.
