The National Palace Museum is the world's finest collection of Chinese antiquities . It was accumulated over the centuries by the rulers of China. Many items are unique, they cannot be replicated elsewhere. Much of the collection was transported to Taiwan when the Nationalist government retreated to Taiwan, it's a treasure chest of Chinese art works. The National Palace Museum is in Shihlin, not far from Taipei.

We spent more than 4 hours here and it was wonderful! There are treasures in every room and they are so well displayed and explained - it is wonderful. We saw so many amazing pieces of art - of all types. And they have a terrific tea house/lunch room if you need to take a break (as we did). I highly recommend that you go and take your time and visit each of the rooms - you will find something special in each...

…because the Sunday I visited was REALLY busy! That didn’t spoil it but it definitely would have been better to wander round with fewer other visitors. Anyway, the collection is incredible and it’s a must-do for tourists in Taipei! In particular the interactive exhibition, painting gallery and the religious statues are incredible.

The national palace museum is definately a must visit when in Taipei. The have a great imperal collection of bronzes, jades, paintings, ceramics, personal artifacts of the imperial court and more. However there are also some parts that are not very interesting to a western tourist in my opinion, like the calligraphy and books sections. Of course this can be different if you can actually read Chinese. That said the ceramic, personal artifacts and jade sections are particulary beautiful as is the bronze section. However if you visited the National Museum of China in Beijing, you wont see anything new in that last section. All in all good for 1,5 - 2 hours.

If you enjoy seeing works of art from different countries, this museum is for you. Having never traveled to Taiwan before, we decided to visit, and were not disappointed. They have an extremely large collection of Chinese and Taiwanese art. Well worth the price of admission (which was far less than US museums). We learned a great deal about historical aspect as well. There’s enough to keep you busy all day, but enough to just see for a few of hours if your time is limited. definitely worthwhile!

What I liked about this place was that, although it was very crowded with people, there was still plenty of room to move around. The place is vast, spread over several floors and many galleries. The jade and ceramics collections are world-class. Paintings and calligraphy also on show. Excellent shop.

The National Palace Museum is a collection of historic artefacts which have been miraculously preserved over the centuries. Some artefacts include "must see" things such as the jade cabbage and the tiny boat, carved from an olive pip. The National Palace displays the world's best collection of Chinese culture, take your time and wonder deeply.

We had originally intended to take the guided tour only to learn all tickets has been sold for the day. Some guidance is helpful to the untrained eye because there are so many exhibits, it is impossible to take everything in and understand which exhibits are ‘must see’. However, there is a good self-guide on their website ‘classic tour II’ and ‘the emperor’s toy box’ that takes about two hours and covers all the highlights. The museum is split into individual rooms and the signage is good. Lots of tour groups in evidence but generally it never feels too crowded because of its size. The oldest pieces are on the top floor and some of the craftmanship particularly the jade pieces is amazing. Said to be the best collection of Chinese art in the world and we can see why. A place that should be visited on a tour of Taiwan.

Contains the pre-WW2 Chinese Forbidden City art collection. The exhibits span 3 floors of a large building and are presented very nicely. There were English translations for each item which was excellent. A must see if visiting Taipei.

If you love museums especially history museums, do not miss this place. I was there to see plenty of interesting exhibits and you can see a lot of artifacts dating centuries old which says a lot of Taiwan's rich history. My 5 year old son was with me too and they have an interactive children's area where kids can learn and do activities.
