New "National Lampoon" movie that is actually funny, if not watched all at once. Movie about nothing but dirty jokes. I say B-
cosmo_tiger18 February 2011
A man with a dream of making a movie with only dirty jokes (Meloni) goes to the head of National Lampoon (Klein) to get it made. It seems like forever ago when National Lampoon was in it's glory days (Animal House, Vacation). The last 10 or so have been pretty bad, this is the best one they have made since the original "Van Wilder". There is nothing to this movie but dirty joke after dirty joke acted out, for example there is a kid playing "little Johnny", etc.... A lot of the jokes are very offensive but I could not stop laughing. The best way to watch is in parts...after 20 min it loses its appeal becoming to repetitive, but I actually found it funny and if you are looking for a movie you don't have to thing about and just watch, then this is a good choice. I give it a B-.

Would I watch again? - Yes - With some of my friends who haven't seen it.

"You're just going to do jokes?"
Sandcooler8 May 2015
Gilbert Gottfried used to do a stand-up tour where he just did dirty public domain jokes for an hour, occasionally interrupted with an unfunny impression. I always thought he was kind of a hack for it, because what's the merit there? It's not like you have to go to bars and collect dirty jokes like gems, there are plenty of books and websites on the subject. As embarrassing as that tour/DVD was, at least a guy standing on a stage is the correct medium for that sort of thing. These jokes are meant to be told, not acted out in "sketches". In one of the few tie-in scenes that are put in this movie to give the illusion of a plot, one character actually mentions how a movie that's nothing but old public domain jokes would suck. Yes, it will and it does, why make it then? Pointing out your errors as an in-joke doesn't get you off the hook, it usually makes everything worse. There are two credited writers/people who know how Google works, and the parts where they are forced to come up with new jokes are among the most embarrassing movie scenes I've ever witnessed. The pre-credit sequence is a girl that sings the national anthem, but the joke is that her singing is off-key. There's no punchline and the scene goes on forever, is this just put in to make you long for the parts with old jokes everyone already knows?

The worst part of the movie has got to be the child actors though. The entire point of casting children was just for shock value (children swearing was apparently still edgy in 2011), but they're clearly reading their sex jokes from cue cards and still mess up the punchlines. They often sound like they don't even get the joke, putting the emphasis on the wrong words and things like that. Chances are they'll be pretty embarrassed by this movie once they've grown up, and perhaps they should be.

This movie was so unnecessary...
paul_haakonsen26 April 2011
Are you kidding me? A movie about people wanting to make a movie with nothing but jokes? This have got to be the weakest plot and storyline ever!

Nevertheless, I did sit through the entire movie. And I will give the movie this much that many of the jokes were actually good and funny. But the whole point of the movie was pointless and a waste of time. Perhaps that was what was intended. But wow!

Most noteworthy in "Dirty Movie" was Christopher Meloni (playing producer Charlie LaRue). He was hilarious, and he was well helped along the way by Mario Cantone (playing the producer).

There was also a lot of really unnecessary nudity in the movie, which brought the movie down a notch. It was tacky and just didn't serve the movie well.

For a National Lampoon movie, then "Dirty Movie" was a very weak experience. Sure there were some good laughs at some of the jokes, but the overall impression of this movie is that it wasn't a movie that was necessary to have been made, much less released onto the market. But hey, I guess there is a niche for every weird and bizarre taste. If you like comedies, there are a lot of more nice and interesting comedies available, even other National Lampoon ones.

Dirty (Incoherent) Movie
aesgaard4111 September 2013
Warning: Spoilers
You know how there are movies that seem to be good ideas on paper but turn out lousy, and those movies you wonder how in God's Green Earth became green-lit to get made, this movie is both. Based along the lines of "Kentucky Fired Movie," "Dirty Movie" is nothing but a string of obscene and demented characters acting out the dirty jokes your acid-baked dumb-ass former friends used to tell in school. Basically "The Benny Hill Show" on acid, except without the humor, clever one-liners or the witty repartee, the movie is a string of obscene material and tasteless dialogue interspersed with scenes of an extremely low-budget film company trying to make a movie with nothing but jokes which get worse and even more controversial as it continues. It doesn't push the envelope; it ignores it completely. The movie fails to realize the difference between dirty jokes and offensive jokes; dirty jokes are basically humor directed at misunderstandings of human vices and stigmas, such as drinking and sex. Offensive jokes are purposely based on ignorance and intolerance and directly aimed at religious, cultural and ethnic groups. The vignettes of the filmmaking crew are the only partially interesting thing about the film; especially as the creators debate between art and sensationalism. Christopher Meloni of "Law & Order" plays a typical despicable director, a man completely without morals, humanity or any redeeming human qualities, joined by Robert Klein as the equally emotionally-deficient producer and Cyndi Lauper as a mom in a few sketches. The only thing interesting about the fake sketches is that as they go on, it starts becoming noticeable that even they seem to share a loose storyline of characters with a male bartender playing straight man, a cute female bartender delivering lines to drunks, a psychotic young boy (Cyndi's boy), a demented and unprofessional physician, some stoned redneck farmers and a mad priest among others. The nudity is confined to more than a few bare breast shots; a few of the women are actually attractive (one particularly homely one turns out in the commentary to be a pseudo-famous female impersonator), but the movie is so focused on indecency and immorality that they're reduced to set dressing than plot points. Like I said, the only interesting parts of the movie are the internal debates on what constitutes obscene material and just what it is willing to do or not do, but most of the time, the movie just drags its feet across the line for no purpose at all but to be shocking. Ignore trying to be funny, the film wants to appall and disgust. (Worse yet, there are adolescent kids in some of the scenes.) Bottom line: the only people who might appreciate this film are stoners, drunks and immature college students.

ABsolute Rubbish!
aceellaway20105 December 2013
What a piece of DUSTBIN!

I too watched this all the way thru, basically because i admire Chris Meloni and thought-foolishly -that there would be some point emerge by the end. More fool me!

I wonder about Chris Meloni's involvement. After all those years on SVU and also OZ. I found myself wondering about the child actor involved in this trash. Where do they find these kids that say such foul language- does anybody care about the long term effects?

I prefer the kids in The Narnia chronicles.

IT did not bring a smile or a chuckle to my face. The nudity is all female and one wonders about the exploitation of women. Don't waste your time-there is NOTHING worth while about this piece of trash.

Last night I was working out and this came on again, forgetting how bad I had found it from my previous viewing I continued to watch it for a while. God's it is SO BAD! I now notice that the talented Chris Meloni was a Co- Director, obviously his talents do not lie with choosing material. So he has no one to blame but himself. At least he has the sense to make himself look unrecognizable, but then one wants to ask "Why did you make this movie and then add insult to injury by not even looking like yourself?" When one considers his sterling work in OZ and Law & Order SUV, one wonders why he would include scenes with a young boy-one would assume not even the bearer of pubic hair and have this child discuss wanting to get "laid" and other sleazy lines. If I lured a child into my home and spoke such trash with him, I would probably end up on the sex offender's list

If I was Chris Meloni, I would view this film as a HUGE MISTAKE and Embarressment. FOR SHAME!

Genius

I was stunned when I saw this movie, I was expecting it to be kind of stupid, lame jokes, etc, but as I went on, the brilliance of this movie became more and more clear: the dirty jokes, the storyline, the metaphores, the whole movie is a joke about how jokes are made!!! I don't understand why people are giving it poor scores for having offensive jokes, that's its purpose! It's undoubtedly the best comedy I've ever seen, between stupid fart jokes a kid could understand (do NOT let your kid watch this movie, he'll be expelled from school!), titties to please the uneducated, the story moves on and bring more-than-ever relevant issues regarding the real freedom of expression. Yes, some of the jokes are lame, but many are brilliant, and the discussions between the characters are insightful and thoughtful. loved it, will see it again

A cheaply made movie with lots of laughs.
minus_zero18 February 2011
This movie has one purpose, to make you laugh at dirty jokes. That is the soul purpose of this movie and that is all it does, but it does it well. Sure you could listen to a stand-up comic tell the same jokes, but watching jokes be acted out as a movie is a fresh idea. So if you like stand-up comedy, you'll love this movie.

Basically this movie is about a guy who wants to make a movie about jokes that we as people all tell each other, you know the kind of jokes that could get you fired from your job because the joke is so offencive (yaa you know the kind). So the guy starts making the movie and we get to watch all the dirty jokes being acted out... Simple for sure, but it will affectively keep a grin on your face for the more part of the movie, and yes you will have a ton of new jokes to tell and stun all your friends with.

This isn;t a movie, it's a cry for help.
Java_Joe27 January 2018
A producer walks into a building to pitch the idea for making a movie made up of dirty jokes. And they make it. That is literally the plot to this movie and it's absolutely terrible.

There is no reason for this movie to even exist. Get a bunch of friends together and go around the circle telling dirty and offensive jokes and occasionally open a Playboy magazine and stare at some naked women. It'll be the same thing and you'll have saved some money and time.

Don't bother with this unless you're 12 because I think that's the only age where you'd find this funny.

Don't waste your time
crabcancer20 February 2014
This is a awful movie. Utter waste of time. I don't mind the National Lampoon series but this is definitely scrapping the scum on the bottom of the barrel.

The plot is non existent. We know that the producer wants to produce a movie about dirty jokes. But the jokes instead of being witty or sarcastic or barbed; turn out to be like what you will hear in a playground. Told by 6 years old, with giggles.

Honestly, the script writers, directors, producers should have watch Spaceballs, Robin Hood - Men in tights or even Borat. At least we get comedy (albeit low-brow but not stale).

Sheesh, they could even have drunk dial Mel Brooks for advice.

To sum it in one word, anagram of "heist"

sreiss13 February 2013
I like low-brow humor...this wasn't even at that level. This is clearly one of the worst excuses for a movie that I have ever seen. The premise was stupid, the jokes were stupid, the acting was stupid, and thank goodness that the movie was free on Comcast and I could fast forward through the whole thing....actually I never even made it to the end.

The one redeeming factor was that Christoper Meloni was 'disguised' enough that this probably didn't ruin his career....although not sure how much he has done since this film .

Do not waste your time. If you want to waste your time, at least watch something from Troma.

Are u joking
tomsievins26 October 2022
This movie was soo awful I couldn't even watch it because it was all jokes that mostly weren't funny and very homophobic racist and sexist if I could allow this movie go never exist I would if someone of ur friends likes this u automatically disown em also the nudity didn't help it at all. I have never hated a movie soo bad as I did this the ##### movie idea is also stupid because most of them are really awful maybe besides scary movie and tbh I don't wanna see what goes on the creators head also putting a warning saying jokes might be offensive doesn't help at all its one of the worst movies probably ever.

Very good!
xg-895051 January 2017
If you are able to see the second surface in movies like "Borat" then this movie can be found as a very intelligent irony about film industry, entrepreneurs and moreover - human biases.

I can concern myself offended by Sacha Baron Cohen's movies but i know that this is a clever (and funny) way to focus our attention on very important (and yes, often extremely sensitive and private) social issues.

You can always concern such a movies straight forward but often for the movie makers this is a intended sly sense of humor.

Actually, this is one of my favourite comedy movies!

BTW. The office in the elevator - rules! :)

Below zero This joke alone is funnier than the entire movie. On this horrible movie you have same old jokes we heard million times before. Seriously, you better watch a random show on television. Watch a TV show you didn't have the time to watch, it will be better than this movie for sure.

Best of all time.
trip_ninja-511-26964924 October 2012
This movie is by far the best of all time.

I myself, hate watching movies more then once. This one I will watch anytime, and laugh every time.

It's that one beautiful movie someone finally made.

It's raunchy and entertaining.

Great Offensive humor. I really wish they would make a sequel to this movie.

If you have the least bit of an open mind and sense of humor, I demand you watch this.

This movie should have 10 stars, haters gone hate.

An average joke-movie
MihaiSorinToma16 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Chris Meloni is the director of a radical movie that will be made entirely out of jokes, especially dirty ones. Together with his team, they must decide on what sort of jokes to use, how much pornography there will be and how offensive it will get before getting into trouble.

It's an alternation between the sequences where they actually make the movie and randomly selected jokes that will eventually form the movie. All scenes are presented in a comical style even if it wasn't necessary all the time. It tries to be like a stand-up comedy, but the funny stuff isn't presented by a guy/girl with a microphone on a stage. The problem with it is that it tries too hard to be funny. Most of the jokes aren't even funny (in my opinion of course) but I did find some that really made me laugh.

If you're someone who likes comedy and you don't mind swearing and nude girls you should try this movie. For me though, it's just another average movie which doesn't manage to rise itself from mediocrity.

If I could give a half I would.
girlwitharandomtat3 August 2023
This movie is stupid, unfunny, and just isn't good. I feel like maybe it tried to be clever in there somewhere but mostly it's just offensive and written for 13 year old boys who want to watch R-Rated films (please don't let your child watch this). I'm no prude and am willing to humor crude and dirty humor but most of this is just offensive. There's one or two well timed rude jokes. Maybe this movie would be fine if you watch it in 5 minute clips and weren't entirely sober, but other than that nah. This is a National Lampoon movie you can skip watching. Honestly the biggest disappointment is that Christopher Meloni is excellent at delivering comedy but clearly he can't write it to save his life. Skip this movie. Go rewatch the vacations or Animal House.

A very educating movie. I mean really educating.
donlekout1 February 2018
I have seen this movie some years ago and I cannot forget it. The reason is simple: this movie had a purpose and the purpose was not just give you some laugh. This movie states a view about humor and jokes, a view that really must be heard.

It is not a simple movie as many might think. It takes a while to trust it and let it play with your way of thinking some very sensitive matters...

I suggest you are openminded and you will be astonished for all those that you can take from this movie, something that hardly someone can say for movies with much higher budgets...

Sorry for my english. I have already recommended it to all my friends!

Just because it's raunchy doesn't mean it's not funny
firemanbob7 January 2023
This movie has something for everyone to hate. The dirtiest, raunchiest, rudest, nastiest most off color jokes ever created. Oh, and gratuitous nudity. If this offends you, don't bother. The premise is stupid, the production quality is as cheap as it gets, and I'm guessing that Meloni hopes no one ever sees this piece of trashiness. Still, it's pretty damn funny. It's not for everyone...hell, it's probably not for 99% of the population, and you have to assume that National Lampoon knew that going in and that didn't stop them. I'm almost ashamed to admit to how many of the jokes I had already heard.

Dirty Genius....Just Pure, Trashy, Unbridled Offensive Fun
Dark_Lord_Mark24 December 2018
I thoroughly enjoyed this. I had this for years. We live in a depressing era where Social Justice, Identity Politics, and the insane are trying to push Communism in the west through restricting words, thoughts and all free speech that MAY offend.

In 2018, I need to lack to the past for fun. I am a fan of sexploitation movies from the 70's and stand up comedy. In 2012, there was a war on straight men, the West and free speech.

Movies haven't evolved. They have gone back due to identity politics, feminism, CGI and the directors who no longer want to work hard.

Dirty Movie came out and sadly, it was towards the end of the free speech era. If this was made before the Obama election, this would have hit cult status like Kung Pow.

Dirty movie is about well, dirty offensive jokes....wrapped in a story about 2 guys who are wanting to make a dirty movie. It's Inception of the comedy movie world....

If a Liberal or a college student realize this movie exists, they will literally try to lock this movie in a vault. This might be the greatest offensive funny movie ever made and too little people know it.

If you are tired of the politically correct....this movie is for you. I watched it 3 times...because some jokes I simply forgot....and I need to be offended and laugh once in a while.

I give it a solid 9 out of 10.

PS: What's long and hard and has seamen in it? A submarine!

The funniest movie I have ever seen!
jhartman1-213 February 2020
This movie contains nearly every funny joke I have ever heard and much more! I'm sure that there are those who like to feel sorry for themselves who may not like it but I think it was a breath of fresh air in the stale comedy world we have become.

I have seen scenes in other movies which were as funny, but this was hilarious from start to finish! I immediately bought the DVD.

Warning: Spoilers
Honestly I didn't know what to expect. I didn't look up who was in this I just went for it...I laughed countless times at the simple DIRTY jokes, each scene was stupid and extremely offensives but it brought back the memories of my grandfather telling dirty jokes to my brother and I when we were little. It's worth a watch while getting super stoned on a random rainy day....

It has every joke you could imagine, arranged in a manor you couldn't. As well as, more than a little too much truth. Granted, you need to make it through the first 20 minutes to start really getting it.
