Mogadishu - (HOL) - In a significant development aimed at bolstering the telecommunications sector in Somalia, the National Communications Authority (NCA) unveiled its state-of-the-art Spectrum Monitoring Operations Center (SMOC) on October 9. Nestled within the heart of the NCA’s headquarters in Mogadishu, the launch event saw attendance from eminent figures in the Communications and Technology sector, including the Minister and State Minister of Communications & Technology.
The SMOC is poised to be a game changer. As a nexus for monitoring and analyzing spectrum usage, it is equipped with capabilities to identify and promptly resolve unauthorized or illegal spectrum activities. The real-time data and insights rendered by the center are expected to underpin informed decision-making processes, optimizing the allocation of spectrum resources.
NCA General Manager, Mustafa Yasin Sheikh, underscored the pivotal role of the SMOC amidst the burgeoning expansion of Somalia’s telecommunications infrastructure and the surge in wireless technologies. “The Center is instrumental in ensuring seamless connectivity and mitigating interference, elevating the quality of services extended to consumers,” Sheikh remarked.
Echoing Sheikh’s sentiments, H.E. Jama Hassan Khalif, the Minister of Communications and Technology, underscored the SMOC’s role as a catalyst in realizing a digitally connected Somalia. The Minister projected that enhanced spectrum management, facilitated by the Center, would trigger a renaissance in service quality, innovation, and competition within the telecommunications sector.
