Nashville and Davidson County Mayor John Cooper and the Tennessee Titans announced they have agreed to terms for a new enclosed stadium that would relieve a nearly $2 billion burden on Nashville taxpayers by voiding the current lease agreement. Faced with the challenge of a $1.75B-1.95B unfunded liability on an aging stadium, Mayor Cooper pursued other options to shift the cost off the general fund. After months of negotiation, and with a generous contribution from the Tennessee State Legislature, the city and team have agreed to terms that would bring a new, enclosed stadium to Nashville at no cost to the city’s general fund. The enclosed option unlocks two revenue sources that wouldn’t otherwise be available – investments from the state and the hospitality industry.

Boards and Commissions Portal
In November, Mayor John Cooper announced a new initiative to make it easier for Nashvillians to express interest to serve on Metro Boards and Commissions, and for the first time ever, will compile and reuse demographic data from those groups online. For the first time in Nashville’s history, the portal is part of a new internal data system designed to allow Metro Government to better manage the 70+ active Boards and Commissions on which more than 680 residents actively serve the community.
East Bank Planning Study
In early 2021, the Metro Nashville Planning Department kicked-off a study to re-envision nearly 350 acres of underutilized land in the heart of Nashville along the banks of the Cumberland River. In partnership with consultants, Perkins Eastman, the Mayor’s Office, Nashville Department of Transportation, Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency, and others, the Imagine East Bank Study provides Nashville with the opportunity to dream of new neighborhoods that could emerge in this area – instead of responding to private development – that are accessible to all and reposition this area of the city for generations to come.
